AF1 Welcomes Expansion to Kentucky with the Barrels

The Kentucky Barrels are set to ignite Greater Cincinnati with the return of high-energy arena football when their inaugural season kicks off in 2026. As a proud expansion franchise in Arena Football One (AF1), the Barrels will call Truist Arena—on the campus of Northern Kentucky University—their home turf.

“We are thrilled to welcome arena football to Truist Arena through this exciting partnership,” said Cady Short-Thompson, President of NKU. “This collaboration will bring a fresh wave of energy and entertainment to our campus and community, while showcasing Truist Arena as a premier venue in the region. We can’t wait to cheer on the Barrels and see fans pack the stands.”

The team is owned by local entrepreneur and proud NKU alum Corey Cunningham, whose vision is to create both an unforgettable game-day experience and a lasting community impact. With a love for football and a deep commitment to the region, Cunningham is determined to build a team that fans can connect with—on and off the field.

“The Barrels are going to be affordable, fast-paced, and family-friendly fun,” said Cunningham. “Once you experience a game live, you’ll see just how thrilling it is. Fans will get championship-level football, opportunities to support local causes, and plenty of ways to connect with our players and community.”

Arena Football One Commissioner Jeff Fisher echoed that excitement: “We’re proud to welcome the Barrels to AF1 for the 2026 season. Corey and Coach Walker are building this organization the right way, and we’re confident Kentucky will prove to be a tremendous market for professional arena football.”

On the sidelines, Head Coach Cedric Walker will lead the charge. Walker arrives in Kentucky fresh off a championship run with the Billings Outlaws in 2024, bringing with him a proven track record, deep football knowledge, and a winning mindset.

The Barrels’ inaugural season is set to launch in spring 2026. With championship ambitions and a mission to entertain, the Kentucky Barrels are ready to make an immediate impact as they chase the Arena Crown.
