AMARILLO, TX — The National Arena League (NAL) is excited to announce the Amarillo Warbirds as the league’s newest expansion franchise, set to debut in the 2026 season. This marks the first expansion under the leadership of current NAL Commissioner Brandon Ikard. The Warbirds will call the Amarillo Civic Center home, bringing professional arena football to the heart of the Texas Panhandle.
This move reflects the NAL’s ongoing mission to grow its presence across Texas, building on the momentum of the successful 2025 Championship Game held in East Texas. The Warbirds will proudly represent North Texas, delivering fast-paced, high-energy football to a region known for its deep passion for the sport.
While the Warbirds are a new addition to the league, they’ll be guided by a familiar face. Leif Kertis, a seasoned arena football executive and local Texas business owner, will lead the organization. Kertis previously served as managing partner and board member of the West Texas Warbirds, who entered the NAL in 2023.
Amarillo’s strong support for professional sports makes it a natural fit for the league’s continued expansion into the Midwest and Southern U.S. markets.

The NAL’s 2026 season kicks off in March, with today’s announcement being the first of several exciting developments leading up to opening week.
