Angel Reese Suspended For First Half Sunday

Chicago’s Angel Reese Suspended for First Half vs. Aces After Critical Comments

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese will serve a first-half suspension in Sunday’s matchup against the Las Vegas Aces after the team cited her for making “statements detrimental to the team.”

“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the franchise said in a statement Friday. “We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

Head coach Tyler Marsh described the move as an “organizational decision” from “the top down,” declining to provide further details.

The suspension follows a turbulent week for Reese. On Wednesday, the two-time All-Star received her eighth technical foul of the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension that sidelined her for Friday’s 97-77 loss to the Indiana Fever.

Reese also apologized to teammates earlier this week after remarks she made to the Chicago Tribune stirred controversy. In the interview, she expressed frustration with the Sky’s direction, saying she was “not settling for the same s— we did this year” and emphasized the need to add “great players” in the offseason. She also questioned the team’s stability at point guard, cautioning against overreliance on veteran Courtney Vandersloot as she returns from an ACL injury.

Marsh confirmed he spoke with Reese regarding the comments but said only that “the matter has been resolved.”

Despite the recent turbulence, Reese has been a bright spot in Chicago’s rebuilding season. She leads the WNBA in rebounding (12.6 per game), tops the league with 23 double-doubles, and also paces the Sky in scoring (14.7) and assists (3.7, tied for first).

Chicago (10-31) was eliminated from playoff contention last month.
