CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is facing a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge after being clocked driving 41 miles per hour over the speed limit in the early hours of June 13, according to a report from the Strongsville Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m. when Sanders, 23, was pulled over in his black Dodge TRX truck for traveling 101 mph in a 60 mph zone. The former Colorado standout and son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders was cited and has the option to either pay a $250 fine or appear in Strongsville Mayor’s Court on July 3 to contest the ticket.
Sanders, once projected as a first-round pick, slipped to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft before being selected by the Browns. He recently completed the team’s mandatory minicamp and has remained in Cleveland with other rookies for continued orientation activities, according to Cleveland.com.
While the citation does not carry jail time, the situation presents an early off-field challenge for Sanders as he begins his NFL career under the microscope. The Browns have not released an official statement regarding the citation.
Sanders enters training camp competing for a backup role behind starter Deshaun Watson, with intrigue surrounding his development after a prolific collegiate career that was marked by both high-level play and high expectations.
As of now, no disciplinary action from the team or league has been announced.
