Chaos in Orlando: Wendell Carter Jr. and Andre Drummond Ignite NBA Cup Brawl

STWF Sports | ORLANDO | Nov. 26, 2025  — Tensions boiled over and tempers flared in Tuesday night’s NBA Cup showdown as the Orlando Magic routed the Philadelphia 76ers 144–103, but the final score was nearly overshadowed by a heated first-half confrontation between Wendell Carter Jr. and Andre Drummond. What started as physical post play quickly escalated into a full-team skirmish, an ejection, and another dramatic chapter in a tournament that has already delivered its share of fireworks.

The spark ignited late in the second quarter. Drummond body-checked Carter while fighting for post position, and as the two tangled, Carter slapped Drummond’s hand away. The veteran center immediately squared up, fists raised, signaling an invitation to escalate. Carter stood firm, shoulders relaxed, almost daring Drummond to take the next step. Within seconds, players and coaches from both benches poured onto the floor to separate the two big men.

Just when the moment seemed to cool, it reignited. Magic guard Jalen Suggs came sprinting in from beyond the arc and delivered a two-handed shove to Drummond, triggering a full-scale confrontation. More shoving ensued, whistles blared, and officials huddled for a lengthy video review to sort out accountability.

Ultimately, the ruling came down hard. Suggs was hit with two technical fouls and ejected with 27 seconds remaining in the half. Carter and Drummond each received double technicals, but both were allowed to continue.

Suggs’ early exit had little impact on the outcome. The Magic—already unbeaten in NBA Cup group play—kept their foot on the gas. Their physicality, pace, and bench depth overwhelmed a shorthanded 76ers squad missing multiple stars. Orlando improved to 3–0 in the tournament, securing control of the group. Philadelphia dropped to 0–3, officially falling out of contention.

SHORTHANDED SIXERS OVERMATCHED

Tyrese Maxey continued to shoulder a massive scoring burden for Philadelphia, finishing with 20 points and flashing the poise of a franchise cornerstone. But without Joel Embiid, Paul George, or rookie standout VJ Edgecombe—each sidelined due to injuries and workload management—the 76ers struggled to keep pace.

Embiid’s absence remains one of the league’s ongoing storylines. The reigning MVP has now missed eight straight games while managing a right knee issue. With his status still uncertain, the Sixers have leaned on Maxey and reserve contributors, but Tuesday’s blowout underscored the challenge of competing without their All-NBA anchor.

The Magic were also missing their young star, Paolo Banchero, who has been sidelined seven games with a lingering groin strain. Yet Orlando’s depth proved far more equipped to absorb the loss.

CARER–REESE RELATIONSHIP BUZZ ADDS OFF-COURT SPOTLIGHT

Carter’s night was eventful beyond box-score impact or on-court altercations. His recent hard launch of his relationship with WNBA superstar Angel Reese added an extra layer of public attention heading into the game.

The 26-year-old made headlines last week when he confirmed the relationship during an appearance on FanDuel’s Run It Back podcast.

That’s my girl. We locked in for sure,” Carter said when asked directly whether the two were officially together.

Reese, who has become one of the most visible figures in women’s basketball, has hinted at the relationship for months through social posts and interviews. With Carter now acknowledging it publicly, the power-couple spotlight is firmly shining on them both.

LOOKING AHEAD

For the Magic, Tuesday’s win reinforces their status as one of the NBA Cup’s early success stories. A deep, physical roster and a maturing young core have blended into a team that thrives in high-intensity environments—skirmishes and all.

The 76ers, meanwhile, face tougher questions. Health remains the biggest obstacle, and while Maxey continues to deliver All-Star-level performances, the team’s ceiling hinges on Embiid’s availability.

But on a night filled with highlights and headlines, the image that may linger longest is of Wendell Carter Jr. standing unbothered, shoulders lifted, as chaos erupted around him—both on the court and in the expanding spotlight of his rising celebrity.
