Dallas Wings Add Kaila Charles, Haley Jones on Hardship Contracts Ahead of Valkyries Clash

The Dallas Wings have signed versatile guard-forwards Kaila Charles and Haley Jones to hardship contracts, the team announced Tuesday. Both players are expected to be in uniform for tonight’s Commissioner’s Cup showdown against the Golden State Valkyries at College Park Center.

Charles, who began the 2025 season with the Wings, returns after being waived on Saturday. In 11 games with Dallas this year, the 6-foot-1 Maryland alum averaged a career-best 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Originally selected 23rd overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun, Charles brings four years of league experience with previous stops in Atlanta and Seattle. Through 67 career games, she’s posted averages of 4.5 points and 2.7 boards.

Jones, another 6-foot-1 guard/forward, signs with Dallas after a brief stint with the Phoenix Mercury, where she appeared in four games under a hardship exemption. A former No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, Jones played all 40 games in her rookie season and earned AP All-Rookie Team honors. The Stanford product has career averages of 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 84 games.

The Wings have been operating with a depleted roster, fielding just eight available players due to a string of injuries and overseas commitments. Guard Tyasha Harris and forward Maddy Siegrist are sidelined with knee injuries, while center Teaira McCowan and forward Luisa Geiselsöder are fulfilling national team duties. As a result, Dallas qualified for the hardship exemption per WNBA policy, which allows temporary roster additions when a team falls below 10 healthy players.

Tipoff against the expansion Valkyries is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with local coverage on KFAA29 and streaming available on WNBA League Pass.
