Dallas, TX (Sept. 26, 2025) – The Dallas Wings and the City of Dallas officially broke ground Friday on a new state-of-the-art practice facility at Joey Georgusis Park in West Dallas/Oak Cliff. This facility is not just a building; it embodies a significant public-private partnership aimed at fostering community and athletic development. The facility will serve as the Wings’ permanent training base and a vibrant community hub, offering youth programming, athletics, and special events that engage the local population in unique and impactful ways.
“This is history in the making,” said Dallas Wings CEO and Managing Partner Greg Bibb. “Today we begin a transformative chapter, one that will elevate our organization while investing deeply in the people of Dallas. This facility will not only provide the best for our athletes but also foster community relationships and engagement. We envision a space that not only trains our players but also serves as a welcoming environment for families and aspiring athletes alike.”
Ceremony Brings Together City Leaders and the Wings
The groundbreaking was attended by prominent Dallas city leadership, including City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Gay Donnell Willis, City Councilmembers, and representatives from the Parks & Recreation Department. The event brought together not only Wings executives and staff but also dedicated players. Stars Arike Ogunbowale and Li Yueru stood proudly alongside Bibb and Executive VP/GM Curt Miller, showcasing the unity and commitment towards the success of the franchise and the community.
In his remarks, Bibb emphasized how the facility will play a pivotal role in the Wings’ quest for a WNBA championship. “Our players will have access to world-class amenities—training courts, state-of-the-art treatment and recovery areas, nutritional guidance, advanced technology, and innovative training methods,” Bibb said. “This project is crucial in ensuring that Dallas maintains its status as a premier hub for women’s professional sports, setting a benchmark that can inspire future generations to excel in athletics.”
A Community Investment
While the facility is designed to provide Wings athletes with elite resources, it also prioritizes the surrounding community. Bibb noted that it will expand opportunities for local youth through clinics, camps, and life-skills programming. By incorporating educational initiatives alongside sports training, the facility aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who can thrive both on and off the court.
“This facility brings professional athletes into the backyard of West Oak Cliff,” Bibb said. “It’s about inspiring the next generation not just through highlights on a screen, but in real life—up close and personal. We want local kids to see that they can achieve their dreams, whether that’s becoming a professional athlete, a coach, or excelling in any other field, inspired by the commitment and dedication of the Dallas Wings players.”
City Manager Bizor Tolbert echoed the sentiment, framing the project as an anchor for broader social impact. “This is bigger than bricks and mortar,” she said. “It represents the intersection of women’s sports, family health, and community pride. This facility is a commitment to bettering our community, and my promise is to deliver this practice facility by spring 2026, ensuring it serves as a catalyst for growth and unity in Dallas.”
