Dallas Wings on the Move Acquires Rayah Marshall in Trade Deal

STWF Sports | Arlington, TX  | April 9, 2026 The Dallas Wings continued shaping their roster ahead of the 2026 season, announcing Thursday a trade that sends forward Diamond Miller to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for center/forward Rayah Marshall.

The move reflects Dallas’ ongoing effort to add frontcourt depth and defensive versatility as the franchise prepares for its 11th season in North Texas.

A Shift in the Frontcourt

The Dallas Wings: Building a Championship Roster

Marshall arrives in Dallas as a young, defensive-minded presence with upside on both ends of the floor. Selected No. 25 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, the former USC Trojans women’s basketball standout appeared in 15 games during her rookie season with Connecticut, averaging 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds.

While her professional sample size remains limited, Marshall’s collegiate résumé suggests a player capable of making a broader impact. During her four-year career at USC, she developed into one of the program’s most consistent contributors, helping lead the Trojans to consecutive NCAA Elite Eight appearances in 2024 and 2025.

Marshall also played a key role in USC’s conference success, contributing to a Pac-12 Tournament championship in 2024 and a Big Ten regular-season title in 2025. Her defensive credentials stand out, earning Big Ten All-Defensive Team honors in 2025 and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team recognition in 2023.

Perhaps most notably, she became just the eighth player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds—a testament to her durability and two-way impact.

Parting Ways with Miller

In exchange, Dallas moves on from Miller, a former No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft out of the Maryland Terrapins women’s basketball.

Miller joined the Wings in a midseason trade from the Minnesota Lynx in August 2025 and appeared in 15 games down the stretch. She averaged 3.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists while providing rotational depth.

Despite flashes of athleticism and potential, Miller did not fully establish a consistent role within Dallas’ system. Her departure signals a strategic shift for the Wings as they continue to evaluate roster balance and long-term fit.

Strategic Implications for Dallas

For the Wings, the addition of Marshall aligns with a broader emphasis on defense, rebounding and positional flexibility in the frontcourt.

At 6-foot-4 with a strong defensive foundation, Marshall offers Dallas a player capable of guarding multiple positions, protecting the rim and contributing on the glass. Her skill set complements a roster that continues to evolve around a mix of young talent and established contributors.

The trade also reflects the organization’s willingness to invest in developmental players who can grow within the system. With Marshall still early in her professional career, Dallas has an opportunity to integrate her into its rotation and maximize her potential.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As the Wings prepare for the upcoming season, roster adjustments like this one underscore the team’s focus on building depth and versatility.

Dallas will open its 2026 campaign on May 9 on the road against the Indiana Fever before returning home to College Park Center on May 12 to face the Atlanta Dream.

With training camp approaching, the integration of Marshall into the roster will be one of several storylines to watch as the Wings continue to refine their lineup.

A Move Toward Identity

Ultimately, the trade represents more than a one-for-one swap. It is another step in defining Dallas’ identity heading into the 2026 season—one centered on defense, versatility and long-term development.

For Marshall, the move offers a fresh opportunity to carve out a role and contribute to a team with playoff aspirations. For the Wings, it is a calculated decision aimed at strengthening the roster in pursuit of sustained success.

As the offseason progresses, Dallas continues to make moves with intention—each one bringing the team closer to its vision for the season ahead.
