Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders has revealed that he recently fought and overcame bladder cancer, a diagnosis he kept private until now.
During a press conference, Sanders explained that doctors discovered a tumor in his bladder while conducting scans related to ongoing vascular issues. After careful evaluation, his medical team decided to remove the tumor and rebuild his bladder using advanced robotic surgery. Sanders said he is now cancer-free and expressed gratitude for the successful procedure.
He shared that the ordeal took a serious toll on his body—he lost nearly 25 pounds and now deals with challenges related to urinary control. Despite the physical setbacks, Sanders said he chose not to tell his children about the cancer, instead saying he was dealing with foot complications so they could stay focused on their careers.
Reflecting on the experience, Sanders described it as life-changing and credited his strong faith and resilience for helping him through. He also emphasized the importance of early detection, especially for men, and encouraged others to prioritize their health.
Now in recovery, Sanders is preparing to return for his third season leading the Colorado football program. Though he admits he’s adjusting to a new normal, he remains determined and focused on the upcoming season.
