Dom Taylor Breaks Down in Emotional Apology After Shocking PDC World Darts Championship Ban

STWF Sports | Dec. 21, 2025 – Dom Taylor has broken his silence in a raw and emotional statement after being sensationally removed from the PDC World Darts Championship for failing a drug test. The 27-year-old, who had opened his Ally Pally debut with a commanding 3–0 victory over Oskar Lukasiak, was disqualified ahead of his scheduled second-round clash with Jonny Clayton following what the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) described as an “adverse analytical finding.”

Taylor, already carrying the weight of a previous ban for a failed test last year, faced immediate suspension from all DRA-regulated events. On Saturday, he addressed the incident publicly for the first time, delivering a lengthy and heartfelt message across his social platforms.

“The first thing I need to say is SORRY”

Taylor began his statement with a direct apology to family, friends, sponsors, his management, and—above all—fans.

“The first thing I need to say is SORRY!!” he wrote. “I am sorry to every single one of my family, friends, sponsors, management team and most important of all, you guys… the game I love the most.”

He admitted lying during his post-match interview after beating Lukasiak, saying he had been “lying to myself and everyone else around me.” Taylor clarified that he had completed all requirements from his previous sanction but said deeper issues contributed to his relapse.

Trauma, mental health struggles, and personal loss

Taylor’s statement went on to describe years of buried trauma, beginning with the moment he discovered his grandmother dead when he was 12. The death was followed by a series of devastating events, including his brother suffering a heart attack and a close friend dying from a brain tumour.

“I should have had more than just that little bit [of counselling],” he reflected.

He also spoke about the loss of his daughter, describing the anniversary this year as a trigger that severely impacted his mental health.

“That’s when I started struggling… and turned back to substances to allow my body and head to cope with things.”

Taylor insisted he never used prohibited substances during PDC events, saying competition was the only environment where he felt focused enough to block out intrusive thoughts.

A career on pause—and a family disappointed

Beyond fans and sponsors, Taylor admitted the heaviest burden came from disappointing his loved ones, including his two daughters and his father, whom he described as one of his biggest supporters.

“All I’ve ever wanted was to make everyone proud… I know everyone including my dad and family are very upset and disappointed in me.”

The short-lived high of his World Championship debut—three ton-plus checkouts and an emotional breakthrough after a year of setbacks—has now been overshadowed by another failed test.

Regret, reflection, and a vow to return

Taylor acknowledged he should have sought help earlier from the PDPA, management, or family. Instead, he tried to push through the pressure alone.

“You think you’re being the strong tough person… until your world crashes down,” he wrote.

In a hopeful closing message, Taylor pledged to get help and return to the sport.

“I AM SINCERELY SORRY to everyone and I will be getting the help I need. Thank you for all of your support… I WILL be back to prove! I’M SORRY TO YOU ALL!”

DRA: Suspension effective immediately

The DRA confirmed Friday that Taylor has been removed from the World Championship and suspended pending a full disciplinary process.

Jonny Clayton was granted a walkover into the last 32, and the DRA emphasized it would make no further public comment until the conclusion of proceedings.

For Taylor, a player long touted as one of English darts’ brightest emerging talents, this episode marks the most painful chapter yet in a turbulent career. His apology, filled with remorse and vulnerability, signals a player eager to rebuild not just his reputation—but his life.
