EA Sports Officially Announces Return of College Basketball Video Game – Set for 2028, Will Feature Men’s and Women’s Teams

ARLINGTON, TX – June 30, 2025 — The wait is finally over for college basketball fans and gamers alike.

In a surprise announcement on Monday, EA Sports confirmed the long-anticipated return of its college basketball video game franchise, with a new title scheduled for release in 2028. The news was first reported by Matt Brown of ExtraPoints, and while details are still limited, EA made it official: the game will feature both men’s and women’s college basketball teams.

This marks the first NCAA basketball video game since NCAA Basketball 10 launched in 2009. EA’s decision follows the overwhelming success of College Football 25—which hits shelves next week—and signals a full embrace of the new NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) era, allowing athletes to be fairly compensated for their digital likeness.

“We’ve listened to the fans,” EA stated in a brief release. “With the evolution of NIL and the explosion of popularity in both men’s and women’s college basketball, the time is right to bring this franchise back.”

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. With March Madness drawing record viewership and women’s college basketball surging in national relevance, the sport is at its most marketable. The women’s game, in particular, has captured headlines and hearts with stars like Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, and Paige Bueckers redefining how the game is played and consumed.

While the official title, gameplay features, and licensing details remain under wraps, fans are already buzzing about dream matchups, legacy rosters, and the potential for Dynasty and MyCareer modes similar to those in the college football revival.

With three years until release, development will be closely watched—but one thing is certain: college hoops is back in the game.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
