Washington protected home court and cashed in on the little things, grinding out an 81-75 victory over Dallas at a sold-out CareFirst Arena.
The Wings had two strong scoring legs in the parlay, with Paige Bueckers finishing at 23 points and Arike Ogunbowale adding 20. Ogunbowale has now cleared the 20-point mark in five straight games, but Dallas could not complete the comeback after falling behind early.
The deciding numbers came inside and at the foul line.
Washington dominated the rebounding battle 42-32, outscored Dallas 44-20 in the paint and generated a 17-9 advantage in second-chance points. The Mystics also lived at the charity stripe, converting 27 of 31 free throws, including 12 of 13 in the fourth quarter.
Shakira Austin was the winning ticket, posting 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Kiki Iriafen nearly added a double-double with 22 points and nine boards.
Dallas briefly grabbed a fourth-quarter lead and tied the game at 73 with two minutes remaining. Washington answered with clutch free throws, defensive rebounds and enough late execution to shut the door.
