FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 22, 2025) – FC Dallas announced Friday that it has loaned Homegrown forward Tarik Scott to USL Championship side Monterey Bay FC for the remainder of the 2025 season. The move provides the 20-year-old forward with valuable first-team minutes in a competitive environment as Dallas continues to develop its young attacking talent.
Rising Through the Homegrown Pathway
Scott, who signed with FC Dallas as the club’s 34th Homegrown player in November 2022, has steadily climbed the development ladder since his debut with North Texas SC in MLS NEXT Pro. He made an immediate impact at the professional level, scoring a brace in his first-ever match against MNUFC2 on March 26, 2022. His ability to find the back of the net quickly made him one of the standout young players in Dallas’ system.
With North Texas, Scott appeared in 21 matches in 2024, tallying 10 goals to lead the team and helping them clinch the MLS NEXT Pro Cup, the club’s first championship at that level. His scoring prowess was central to the team’s postseason push, and his reputation as a reliable goal scorer grew throughout the campaign.
In 2025, Scott continued to shine at the developmental level, scoring five goals in 16 appearances for North Texas, ranking second on the team. He etched his name in the record books by netting the fastest goal in club history, scoring just one minute and 15 seconds into a match. From 2022 through 2025, his 17 career goals for North Texas rank him fourth all-time, and he holds the franchise record with four game-winning goals.
Experience with FC Dallas
Scott made his FC Dallas first-team debut on June 29, 2024, against FC Cincinnati in MLS play. Since then, he has featured in six matches for the senior side. While he has yet to register a goal or assist at the MLS level, his performances have demonstrated glimpses of his potential, particularly his pace, work rate, and ability to stretch defenses.
With FC Dallas currently in a transitional phase, prioritizing both playoff contention and player development, the decision to loan Scott provides the forward with a chance to gain consistent playing time at a higher competitive tier than MLS NEXT Pro, while keeping the door open for a return to Toyota Stadium in 2026.
Opportunity in the USL Championship
Monterey Bay FC, currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, will look to Scott as an offensive spark down the stretch of the season. The club has been in need of additional firepower, and Scott’s versatility as both a winger and central forward makes him a valuable addition.
The move also reunites him with Nico Gordon, his former captain at North Texas SC, who now plays for Monterey Bay. That familiarity could ease his adjustment to a new environment while giving him an opportunity to thrive in meaningful minutes.
FC Dallas on Player Development
FC Dallas President Dan Hunt and technical staff have long emphasized the club’s philosophy of leveraging its academy and Homegrown talent pipeline. The loan aligns with that approach, providing Scott with the experience he needs to continue developing.
While Scott may not yet have a regular role in the first-team rotation, the loan to Monterey Bay ensures that his growth will not stall. The expectation is that he will return to Frisco next season as a more polished and confident attacking option.
Looking Ahead
For FC Dallas, this move represents another step in a broader strategy of preparing young players for long-term success, whether in MLS or abroad. For Scott, it is an opportunity to prove he can translate his North Texas success into consistent production at a higher level of play.
As the USL Championship season enters its final months, all eyes will be on whether Tarik Scott can carry his scoring touch to Monterey Bay and continue his ascent as one of Dallas’ promising Homegrown forwards
