FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 6, 2025) — FC Dallas announced Wednesday that longtime defender Marco Farfan has been permanently transferred to Club Tigres UANL of Liga MX, marking the end of a three-and-a-half-season run in North Texas.
The move makes Farfan the second FC Dallas player to join Tigres this season, following Homegrown goalkeeper Antonio Carrera’s transfer earlier this summer. Farfan leaves Dallas after 121 appearances, three goals, and eight assists, cementing his role as one of the most dependable players on the roster during his tenure.
Farewell to Dallas
Farfan, who reached his 100th regular-season appearance for Dallas on June 14 in a 4-2 win at Sporting Kansas City, was the fourth-longest tenured player on the current roster at the time of his departure. The 26-year-old defender reflected on his time in Dallas with gratitude.
“Dallas is a place that I never expected to be but now, it will always be home,” Farfan said in a team release. “It is a special place because of the people I’ve met, the fans of this club, and the people around here. The fans have made it home for me, so Dallas will always have a special place in my heart.”
A Steady Presence
Since joining FC Dallas in 2022, Farfan has been a consistent fixture in the back line, valued for his defensive versatility and work rate. Known for his ability to defend one-on-one situations and contribute in attack, he provided a steady presence during a period of transition for the club.
His offensive contributions, while modest on the stat sheet, came in timely fashion — three goals and eight assists across all competitions. Coaches often praised his ability to push the ball up the flank and create chances for the attack.
“Marco has been a consummate professional,” head coach Nico Estévez said. “He’s someone who always gave his best, on and off the field. While we’ll miss his leadership, we’re excited for this next chapter in his career.”
Career Path
Before his Dallas tenure, Farfan spent the 2021 season with Los Angeles FC, appearing in 29 matches. He began his professional career with the Portland Timbers, signing on Oct. 14, 2016, as the club’s first-ever Homegrown player. During his time in Portland, he developed into one of the league’s most reliable young defenders, playing a key role in the Timbers’ run to the 2020 MLS is Back Tournament title in Orlando, Florida.
Farfan’s performances also earned him recognition on the international stage. He made his senior debut for the U.S. men’s national team on Dec. 9, 2020, in a 6-0 friendly win over El Salvador.
Joining Tigres
Tigres UANL, one of Liga MX’s most prominent and successful clubs, adds Farfan to a squad loaded with both veteran talent and international experience. Based in San Nicolás de los Garza, Tigres are perennial contenders in Mexican football, regularly competing for Liga MX titles and international trophies.
The move reunites Farfan with Carrera, who has been adjusting to life with the Mexican powerhouse since his transfer earlier this season. The addition of Farfan bolsters Tigres’ defensive depth as they prepare for the stretch run in their domestic and international campaigns.
What’s Next for FC Dallas
For Dallas, the departure of Farfan creates both a challenge and an opportunity. The back line loses a steady veteran presence, but the move opens playing time for younger defenders eager to step into larger roles.
The transfer also signals FC Dallas’ continued role as a club that develops players capable of moving into top-tier international squads. With a strong academy pipeline and an eye on future signings, Dallas will look to maintain competitiveness while retooling its roster.
A Legacy in Frisco
Though his time in Dallas has come to a close, Farfan leaves behind a legacy as a respected leader and reliable presence for the club. His milestone 100th appearance earlier this season underscored his durability and importance to FC Dallas in recent years.
As he moves on to Tigres, Farfan departs with the appreciation of teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
“Marco gave everything for this club,” Estévez added. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him success at Tigres.”
