Florida quarterback DJ Lagway is set to enter the transfer portal, ending his time in Gainesville after two seasons. Once viewed as a cornerstone for the program’s future, the sophomore will now look to continue his career elsewhere as he heads into his third collegiate season.
Lagway’s on-field results were a mix of promise and inconsistency. While his freshman campaign had its ups and downs statistically, he finished strong—winning six of his final seven starts. The expectations entering the season were massive, with preseason buzz surrounding Lagway reaching Arch Manning–level heights. However, that hype never fully translated into sustained production.
During the 2025 season, Lagway completed 63.2 percent of his passes, totaling 2,400 yards of offense with 17 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. Turnovers proved to be a recurring issue, as the former five-star recruit threw 23 interceptions over his first two seasons, including five in a single game against LSU this past year.
Lagway announced his decision via social media, expressing gratitude for his time at Florida:
“Dear Gator Family, first and foremost, I want to thank God for every blessing He has placed over my life. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an incredible program here at the University of Florida.
To my family—your unwavering support means the world to me. I would not be the man or athlete I am today without your love, guidance, and sacrifice.
To my friends and teammates—thank you for the brotherhood, the memories, and the bonds we’ve built over these past two years. I will carry those moments with me for a lifetime.
To my coaches, the athletic training staff, and everyone in the University of Florida community—thank you for believing in me and showing me constant love and support during my time in Gainesville.
After much prayer, reflection, and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”
Lagway now becomes one of the more intriguing quarterback names available, as programs around the country look to capitalize on his talent and potential.
