Game-Changer Incoming: FC Dallas Lands MLS-Proven Star Santiago Moreno

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | March 27, 2026 FC Dallas has made a significant attacking addition ahead of the heart of the MLS season, acquiring Colombian forward Santiago Moreno on loan from Fluminense FC through the end of the 2026 campaign, the club announced Friday. The deal includes an option to make the move permanent.

Moreno will occupy a Designated Player slot and, notably, holds a U.S. green card, allowing FC Dallas to preserve valuable international roster flexibility. The transaction remains pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

To complete the move, FC Dallas executed a trade with the Philadelphia Union, sending $75,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) and an additional $50,000 in conditional GAM in order to move up the league’s waiver order.

Club president Dan Hunt emphasized the impact Moreno is expected to bring to a Dallas side that has shown attacking promise early in the season.

“We are excited to bring Santi Moreno to FC Dallas,” Hunt said. “He has consistently delivered goals and assists in MLS. We believe he is a strong fit for our group and an important addition as we continue to build our attack.”

Moreno, 25, arrives in Frisco with a proven track record in Major League Soccer. During his four seasons with the Portland Timbers, he made 131 appearances, tallying 20 goals and 40 assists. His most productive campaign came in 2022, when he set career highs with seven goals and 34 appearances, showcasing his versatility across the attacking front.

Known for his pace, creativity, and ability to operate in tight spaces, Moreno has built a reputation as a dynamic playmaker capable of unlocking defenses both as a scorer and provider. In 2025, he produced one of the league’s standout moments with a game-winning bicycle kick that earned AT&T Goal of the Matchday honors for Matchday 12.

Moreno most recently spent time in Brazil with Fluminense after joining the club in August 2025. While his stint was brief—making eight appearances and recording one assist across all competitions—it provided valuable experience in one of South America’s top leagues.

Before his MLS breakthrough, Moreno began his professional career with América de Cali, where he emerged as a promising young talent. Across two seasons, he registered 11 goals and seven assists in 57 appearances. He also played a role in the club’s 2020 Liga BetPlay Dimayor championship run, scoring in the first leg of the final.

On the international stage, Moreno has earned two caps with the Colombian men’s national team, making his senior debut in November 2022 in a 2-0 victory over Paraguay.

For FC Dallas, the addition of Moreno signals a continued emphasis on strengthening an already potent attack. With players like Petar Musa and Logan Farrington contributing early in the season, Moreno’s arrival provides head coach Eric Quill with another high-level option capable of impacting matches in multiple ways.

Tactically, Moreno’s ability to play across the front line offers flexibility. He can operate as a winger cutting inside, a secondary playmaker underneath the striker, or even as a direct attacking threat in transition. His familiarity with MLS also eliminates much of the adjustment period often associated with international signings.

The move reflects FC Dallas’ ambition to remain competitive in the Western Conference while continuing to build a balanced roster blending youth, experience, and proven production.

As the club prepares for the upcoming stretch of matches following the international break, Moreno’s integration into the squad will be closely watched. If his previous MLS form is any indication, FC Dallas may have secured a difference-maker capable of elevating its attack to another level.
