Game Preview: Arkansas Travelers vs Frisco RoughRiders- Building Momentum Against Travelers

FRISCO, TX (July 3, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders (3-5, 41-35), Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are back in action tonight as they host the Arkansas Travelers (5-3, 40-37), the Seattle Mariners’ affiliate, for the third game of a six-game set at Riders Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT.

The Riders will send right-hander Josh Stephan (5-3, 5.28 ERA) to the mound, looking to steady the rotation and snap a string of inconsistent outings. Opposing him will be lefty Reid VanScoter (3-1, 4.93 ERA), who aims to keep Arkansas on track after a frustrating collapse on Wednesday night.

Frisco enters Thursday’s game riding the momentum of a thrilling 7-6 comeback victory in Game 2 of the series. The RoughRiders erased a five-run deficit, their third such rally of the season when trailing by five or more. The decisive moment came in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Cam Cauley plated the go-ahead run with an RBI groundout — Frisco’s only lead of the night.

Cauley continued his torrid stretch with a three-hit performance and now boasts a .343 average over his last nine games. Jax Biggers, Aaron Antonini, and Abimelec Ortiz all delivered clutch RBI hits during the fourth-inning surge that tied the game at 5-5.

Reliever Josh Mollerus (1-0) earned his first Double-A win with two scoreless frames, while Gavin Collyer nailed down his team-leading seventh save, keeping Frisco tied for fifth in Minor League Baseball with 25 total saves this season.

The Travelers, who had built a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning behind run production from Lazaro Montes, Caleb Cali, Nick Raposo, and Blake Rambusch, will look to bounce back behind VanScoter. Arkansas’ bullpen faltered late, as Nick Davila (0-2) was tagged with the loss.

What to Watch:

  • Can Josh Stephan regain his early-season form and deliver a quality start?

  • Will Frisco’s offense, which tallied 11 hits last night, stay hot against a left-handed starter?

  • Can Arkansas’ bullpen rebound after surrendering the lead in back-to-back innings?

With the series tied 1-1, tonight’s matchup is a pivotal swing game as both clubs jostle for position in a tightly contested Texas League race.
