Rangers Blank Orioles Behind Eovaldi’s Gem, Semien and Seager Homers
ARLINGTON, Texas (July 2, 2025) — Nathan Eovaldi returned to form and Marcus Semien delivered the big swing early as the Texas Rangers shut out the Baltimore Orioles 6-0 on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field, securing the series win.
Making only his second start since returning from a month-long absence due to elbow inflammation, Eovaldi (5-3) tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five across 72 efficient pitches. It was a planned short outing, and the right-hander didn’t miss a beat. Dane Dunning followed with three shutout innings of his own to notch his second career save, both coming this season.
The offensive spark came early, courtesy of Semien’s three-run blast in the third inning, followed by a Corey Seager solo homer to lead off the fifth. The home run was Seager’s fourth in six games and his 11th of the season.
Ezequiel Duran, starting at third base after former All-Star Josh Jung was optioned to Triple-A, made the most of his opportunity with a two-run single in the fourth, giving Texas a 5-0 cushion. Josh Smith and Alejandro Osuna also contributed with multi-hit games, continuing the Rangers’ trend of finding production throughout the lineup.
On the other side, Tomoyuki Sugano (6-5) took the loss for Baltimore, surrendering all six runs across five innings. The Orioles’ bats were held in check all night, managing just four hits and striking out nine times. Gunnar Henderson, last year’s AL All-Star shortstop, was held in check with three strikeouts, including two against Eovaldi, despite entering the game 5-for-5 lifetime against the right-hander.
Key Moment
With two outs in the fourth and runners on second and third, Duran came through with a clutch two-run single after Jake Burger and Billy McKinney struck out on three pitches each. The timely hit extended the Rangers’ lead to 5-0 and deflated any momentum the Orioles hoped to build.
Key Stat
Gunnar Henderson’s three strikeouts marked the first time in his career he went hitless with at least three punchouts against the Rangers. He came into the game with a perfect batting line against Eovaldi.
