Gymnastic News: Simone Biles Reveals Recent Health Scare, Says She “Almost Died”

STWF Sports| June 7, 2026 — Simone Biles has opened up about a frightening recent health scare, revealing on social media that she “almost died” earlier this week.

The Olympic gymnastics icon shared the candid update through her Instagram story over the weekend, posting a photo that appeared to show hospital wristbands on her wrist. While Biles did not disclose the exact nature of the medical issue, she made it clear the experience was serious and deeply unsettling.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

The 29-year-old gymnast described the incident as one of the scariest moments of her life, especially because her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, was away in Indianapolis for team activities with the Colts.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices,” Biles wrote.

Biles later indicated on X that the situation was health-related, though she has not yet provided additional details. She assured fans that she is now recovering at home and resting after the incident.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week,” Biles wrote. “I’ll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”

The update quickly drew concern from fans across the sports world. Biles has long been one of the most visible and celebrated athletes in the United States, and any health scare involving the gymnastics legend naturally brings widespread attention.

Biles also shared another image showing bouquets of flowers in a vase, apparently sent by people close to her. A separate post showed her resting in bed with her two dogs, along with a screenshot of her resting heart rate. The caption read, “I’ll be here.”

The posts suggested that while the scare was serious, Biles is now focused on recovery and surrounded by support.

Biles’ decision to share the moment was notable because she has often been intentional about maintaining privacy around her personal life. Her message acknowledged that balance, making clear that she does not typically share private health matters publicly. In this case, however, the severity of the experience appeared to prompt her to give fans a brief update.

Biles is the most decorated American Olympic gymnast of all time. Across three Olympic Games, she has won 11 medals, including seven gold, two silver and two bronze. Her dominance, longevity and impact on gymnastics have made her one of the defining athletes of her generation.

Beyond her medal count, Biles has also become a major voice in conversations about athlete wellness, mental health and the pressures of elite competition. Her openness in previous years about prioritizing her well-being changed the way many fans and sports leaders discuss the responsibilities placed on world-class athletes.

This latest health scare is a different type of personal challenge, but her message again showed a willingness to be honest with supporters while still protecting the details she is not ready to share.

Owens, her husband, signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts during the offseason and has been with the team for practices. Biles noted his absence during the scare, emphasizing how difficult the experience felt while he was away.

For now, Biles has not offered a timeline for when she will fully explain what happened. Her comments suggest she may share more when she feels ready.

Until then, the immediate focus is on rest and recovery.

For fans, the update was alarming but also reassuring. Biles made it clear the situation was terrifying, but her posts from home showed she is recovering, receiving support and taking time to heal.

In a career defined by strength, precision and historic achievement, Biles is now facing a private health recovery with the same message she has often carried publicly: listen to your body, lean on your support system and take the time needed to be well.  Make taking Mental Health Days a priority!
