BALTIMORE — June 25, 2025 — On a sweltering Wednesday night at Camden Yards, Jacob deGrom reminded the baseball world why he’s still one of the most feared arms in the game.
The 37-year-old right-hander carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and led the Texas Rangers to a 7-0 shutout of the Baltimore Orioles, sealing a series victory and delivering the club’s most dominant pitching performance of the season.
DeGrom (8-2) was masterful, retiring the first 18 batters he faced with a blend of precision and power. He opened 20 of 24 plate appearances with a strike and averaged 98.4 mph on his fastball, throwing 59 of 89 pitches for strikes. The Orioles finally broke up the no-hit bid in the eighth when Colton Cowser slapped a 1-1 fastball into right field, sneaking it between Jackson Holliday and Ryan O’Hearn.
Despite the near no-no, deGrom’s night was another notch on his Hall of Fame résumé. He struck out seven, walked two, and notched his fourth consecutive win, with Texas improving to 11-5 in his starts this year.
“It’s special to be out there and have everything working,” deGrom said postgame. “You just go pitch by pitch and try to stay in rhythm. The defense was great, and the guys gave me some breathing room early.”
Texas Bats Back deGrom
The Rangers offense gave their ace plenty of support. Josh Jung had a three-RBI night, singling home a run in the second and blasting a two-run homer in the fourth off Orioles rookie Brandon Young (0-2).
Texas exploded for three runs in the fourth, with RBI singles from Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, and a sacrifice fly by Adolis García. Jonah Heim added the exclamation point with a solo homer in the sixth.
Baltimore’s offense, meanwhile, was stifled for a second straight night. The Orioles were held to just one hit and were shut out for the eighth time this season. This marks the third time in 2025 Baltimore has been limited to one hit in a game — a troubling trend for a team trying to stay afloat in the AL East.
Key Moment
Cowser’s single in the eighth ended deGrom’s no-hit bid, but the damage was minimal. The ball was perfectly placed between Holliday and O’Hearn, denying deGrom a second career one-hitter.
Key Stat
Texas has now won four straight road series and is gaining steam at the right time, with the rotation stabilizing and the bullpen locking things down late.
The Orioles have now lost four of their last five and have struggled mightily at the plate during that stretch.
Texas heads to Kansas City next, riding a wave of momentum and backed by their ace who, even at 37, still looks capable of rewriting the record books.
