LSU Completes Sweep of Coastal Carolina, Clinches Eighth Men’s College World Series Title

OMAHA, Neb. – In a tense and electrifying finale on Sunday, June 22, 2025, LSU defeated Coastal Carolina 5–3 to sweep the championship series and secure its eighth NCAA title—and second under coach Jay Johnson in just three seasons  .

After Kade Anderson’s awe-inspiring complete-game shutout (1–0) in Game 1, LSU leaned on its ace Anthony Eyanson in the deciding Game 2 at TD Ameritrade Park.

Eyanson’s Mastery

Anthony Eyanson delivered a commanding performance:

  • Final line: 6⅓ innings, 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts.  
  • Over six innings, he racked up nine punch-outs, allowed just four hits and a walk through four, and consistently shut down Coastal Carolina’s rallies .

Eyanson (11–2, 2.92 ERA, 143 Ks) entered Omaha as one of LSU’s top pitchers, and he delivered under pressure  .

Early Drama & LSU’s Dominance

Coastal Carolina struck first with a second-inning solo homer by Dean Mihos, his first of the series, to go up 1–0  . But LSU responded emphatically:

  • Top of the 3rd: Ethan Frey doubled in a run to tie the game  .
  • Top of the 4th: LSU erupted for four runs. Chris Stanfield’s two-RBI single and Derek Curiel’s two-RBI knock broke the game wide open at 5–1  .

Eyanson quashed any Coastal threats through the middle innings, including striking out Ty Dooley to extinguish a rally with runners on in the fourth  .

Late Scare & Closure

The Chanticleers mounted a late push:

  • Wells Sykes belted a two-run home run in the 7th—his fourth of the season—chopping the lead to 5–3  .
  • Eyanson exited after 6⅓ innings, having set the tone, and LSU brought in right-hander Chase Shores to seal the victory. Shores retired the side in the 9th on a double play, triggering the LSU celebration  .

Legacy and Accolades

  • Eyanson’s heroics followed Anderson’s dominant shutout, completing a historic sweep for LSU .
  • Postgame, Eyanson reflected on the win: “Everybody just coming together as a group…”—underscoring the team’s unity  .
  • Anderson was named Most Outstanding Player, flashing his postseason brilliance (0.56 ERA across 16 innings)
