Manning Passing Academy Celebrates 30 Years of Impact at Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. — For 30 years, the Manning Passing Academy has brought some of football’s biggest names to South Louisiana. This weekend marked another milestone as the nationally recognized camp celebrated three decades of developing the next generation of quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, and tight ends.

What began in 1996 as a small instructional camp has grown into one of the premier football academies in the country. Since moving to Nicholls State in 2005, the academy has become a summer tradition in Thibodaux, welcoming more than 1,200 campers each year while also bringing in hundreds of current college football players to serve as counselors.

The camp is about far more than throwing passes or running routes. Throughout the four-day event, young athletes receive instruction from college players and coaches while learning leadership, teamwork, and the fundamentals that have made the Manning family one of football’s most respected names.

Archie Manning reflected on the academy’s growth over the past three decades, noting that what started with only a handful of college players has become one of the nation’s premier instructional camps.

The event also continues to shine a national spotlight on Nicholls State University. Campers from across the country spend the week utilizing the Colonels’ athletic facilities while experiencing everything the university and Bayou Region have to offer. The partnership has helped make Nicholls synonymous with one of football’s most recognizable offseason events.

For Peyton Manning, returning to Thibodaux each summer has become one of the highlights of the offseason. He praised Nicholls for its hospitality and facilities, crediting the university and community for helping make the academy what it is today.

Beyond the football field, the academy provides a significant economic boost to the Bayou Region each summer as thousands of campers, families, coaches, and staff fill local hotels, restaurants, and businesses throughout the week.

Perhaps the greatest testament to the academy’s success is its lasting impact. Former campers now return as parents, bringing the next generation to experience the same instruction that helped shape their own football journeys.

Thirty years after its founding, the Manning Passing Academy remains one of the premier offseason events in the sport. And for Nicholls State and the Thibodaux community, it continues to serve as one of the biggest annual showcases of both the university and South Louisiana’s hospitality.
