McLaurin And Commanders Agree to 3-Year Deal

The Washington Commanders and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin have reached a three-year, $96 million contract extension, ending a long-standing contract dispute that had put his future with the team in question.

McLaurin, 29, had been entering the final year of a previous three-year, $68.4 million extension signed in 2022. With the wide receiver market continuing to climb, he sought a significant raise, and his new deal now places him among the NFL’s highest-paid receivers, averaging $32 million per year.

The extension comes after a tense summer. McLaurin had requested a trade in late July during stalled negotiations and was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to an ankle injury. He returned to practice in mid-August and played in the Commanders’ final preseason game, a 30–3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Over his six-year career, McLaurin has been a consistent performer for Washington, earning two Pro Bowl selections and a second-team All-Pro nod in 2024. He also holds the franchise record for most touchdown receptions in a season, with 13 in 2024. The Commanders hope that finalizing McLaurin’s contract will allow the team to focus fully on the upcoming season and build on recent successes.
