MiLB Game Preview: Frisco RoughRiders, RockHounds Set for Showdown as One-Run War Heats Up in Frisco

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | April 11, 2026 — With tension building in one of the most competitive early-season series in the Texas League, the Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field on Saturday night to face the Midland RockHounds in Game 5 of a tightly contested six-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with left-hander Dylan MacLean (1-0, 1.80 ERA) taking the mound for Frisco against Midland right-hander JJ Goss (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

The matchup arrives with the series deadlocked in intensity, if not in wins, as each of the last three contests has been decided by a single run. Frisco evened the series on Friday night with a 4-3 victory, continuing a trend of late-inning drama that has defined the week.

In that win, the RoughRiders struck early, capitalizing on a two-out opportunity in the first inning when Orlando Martinez delivered a two-run single to give Frisco a 2-0 advantage. Midland responded with an unearned run in the second, but Frisco starter Leandro Lopez remained composed, working 5.2 innings while allowing just that lone tally and striking out three.

Frainyer Chavez extended the lead in the fifth with his first home run of the 2026 campaign, but Midland answered in the seventh, tying the game on a two-RBI double from Jared Dickey. The decisive moment came in the eighth inning, when Tucker Mitchell lined an RBI single through the right side to plate John Taylor and restore the lead. Mitchell also played a pivotal role defensively in the ninth, helping secure the final out as Bryan Magdaleno recorded his first save of the season.

Saturday’s pitching duel presents another compelling chapter. MacLean has been sharp in his first outing of the year, showcasing command and poise that have anchored a Frisco staff off to one of the best starts in the league. Opposing him, Goss has yet to allow a run this season, setting the stage for what could be a low-scoring affair.

Why the Frisco RoughRiders Are a Team to Watch This Season

Offensively, Frisco enters the contest as one of the most productive teams in Double-A. The RoughRiders lead the level with 77 hits through their first seven games and boast a .307 team batting average, a mark that ranks first in the Texas League. However, their situational hitting remains an area of focus, as the club is batting just .222 with runners in scoring position.

Outfielder Dylan Dreiling has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup, hitting .321 with two home runs and seven RBIs through seven games. His combination of plate discipline and emerging power has made him one of the early standouts in the Texas Rangers’ farm system. Meanwhile, Chavez continues to surge, riding a five-game hitting streak and batting .500 over his last five contests, further stabilizing the middle of the order.

Tucker Mitchell has also been instrumental, carrying a .407 average that ranks among the league’s best, while Keyber Rodriguez has piled up 12 hits, tying for the Texas League lead and putting himself within reach of a franchise record for hits through the first seven games.

On the pitching side, Frisco has been equally impressive. The club’s 2.43 ERA is the best in the Texas League and one of the top marks across Minor League Baseball. The bullpen has been particularly dominant, posting a 2.23 ERA with a league-leading 1.02 WHIP. That unit delivered again on Friday, with Wilian Bormie providing scoreless relief to keep the game within reach before the offense delivered late.

Defensively, catcher Julian Brock has added another layer of impact, throwing out six of eight attempted base stealers this season — the second-highest total in Minor League Baseball — while also contributing offensively.

Despite their overall success against South Division opponents in recent seasons, the RoughRiders have found Midland to be a consistent challenge. Since 2021, Frisco holds a narrow 57-55 edge over the RockHounds, underscoring the evenly matched nature of the rivalry.

With momentum shifting game by game, Saturday night’s contest offers both teams an opportunity to seize control of the series. For Frisco, the formula has been clear: timely hitting, dominant pitching, and late-game execution. If those elements hold, the RoughRiders could position themselves for another statement win before the series concludes.
