Frisco, TX (July 29, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders (9-18, 47-48) return home for a crucial matchup against the San Antonio Missions (12-15, 51-45) at Dr Pepper Ballpark after a tough 6-4 loss to the Wichita Wind Surge on Sunday. Despite a strong performance from Aaron Zavala, who homered in the second inning, Frisco couldn’t overcome Wichita’s early surge and late-game power hitting. As they head into their next series, the RoughRiders will look to bounce back with a strong showing against the Missions, a team that is currently riding high and looking to secure a solid spot in the standings.
The RoughRiders’ Last Game: A Close Loss to Wichita
Frisco’s offense was highlighted by Zavala’s lead-off homer in the top of the second, but the RoughRiders couldn’t capitalize on the momentum as they fell short against the Wind Surge. After Wichita jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a three-run blast from Andrew Cossetti, the RoughRiders quickly responded with Zavala’s solo shot. However, the Wind Surge answered back in the second, pushing their lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly by Kyler Fedko.
Wichita extended their lead in the sixth with Cossetti’s second home run of the game, a solo shot that made it 5-1. Frisco fought back in the seventh, with Ian Moller’s bloop two-run single cutting the deficit to 5-4. A wild pitch allowed Moller to score and bring the RoughRiders even closer, but the rally was halted when Kala’i Rosario hit a solo shot for the Wind Surge in the eighth, padding their lead to 6-4.
The RoughRiders managed only one baserunner in the final two innings, as Wind Surge reliever John Stankiewicz came on in relief to secure the save. Frisco starter Ben Anderson (4-5) was saddled with the loss, yielding four runs over five innings, though he did strike out six batters. The RoughRiders’ bullpen did well to keep the game within reach, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Wichita’s power and timely hitting.
Frisco’s Keys to the Game vs. San Antonio
The RoughRiders will need to focus on improving their early-game defense and getting better pitching depth against the Missions. San Antonio enters this series with a solid 51-45 record, and while they’ve been streaky, they’ve shown the ability to get hot quickly, especially with their offense. In particular, Frisco will have to watch out for Missions’ power hitters, who have been excellent at capitalizing on mistakes and putting together consistent scoring opportunities.
Offensively, Frisco’s lineup will need to produce more than just Zavala’s occasional power showings. Ian Moller and Thomas Saggese, who have both shown flashes of potential, will need to step up to help provide support to Zavala. The RoughRiders have shown their ability to hit for power this season but will need to tighten their approach to get on base more consistently and capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Pitching Matchups to Watch
Frisco’s starting pitcher, who will be announced shortly, will need to bring his best stuff to neutralize the Missions’ offense. San Antonio has a potent lineup, and with the high-scoring affairs the RoughRiders have seen in recent weeks, getting solid starts is crucial. For the Missions, they will likely turn to their ace, who has been solid in recent outings. Limiting walks and minimizing mistakes will be key for both teams.

Looking Ahead
As the RoughRiders look to snap their losing streak, the key to success in this series lies in their ability to execute well-rounded baseball—good pitching, timely hitting, and clean defense. The Missions, who have been on a solid run, will certainly be a formidable opponent, but if Frisco can string together more consistent offensive performances and tighten up on defense, they have the talent to make a run at the series win.
