Game Recap: RoughRiders Claim 4-2 Victory in Series Opener
In Tuesday night’s series opener, the RoughRiders secured a 4-2 win over the Missions, behind timely hitting and strong pitching. San Antonio took an early lead in the top of the first when Devin Ortiz blasted a solo home run to give the Missions a 1-0 advantage. However, Frisco quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Keyber Rodriguez’s sacrifice fly tied the game, and Cam Cauley followed with an RBI single to give the RoughRiders a 2-1 lead.
Frisco extended their lead in the seventh inning as Rodriguez drove in another run with an RBI single, making it 3-1. But the Missions battled back in the top of the eighth, with Moisés Gómez’s RBI double cutting the lead to 3-2. However, Frisco reliever Gavin Collyer came in and induced an inning-ending fly out to keep the lead intact.
In the bottom of the eighth, Abimelec Ortiz added some much-needed insurance with a solo home run over the left field fence, pushing the lead to 4-2. In the ninth, Gerardo Carrillo closed out the game with a shutout frame, securing his third save of the season.
RoughRiders starter Mitch Bratt (6-3) earned the victory after allowing a leadoff homer and then retiring 14 of the next 20 batters he faced. He pitched 5.2 solid innings to limit the damage. Missions reliever Jared Kollar (0-5) took the loss after allowing three runs over four innings of relief.
Pitching Matchup: Trentadue vs. Pinales
In Wednesday’s game, the RoughRiders will send Josh Trentadue to the mound for his first appearance of the season after joining the roster recently. Trentadue, who will make his debut start for Frisco, will look to provide a boost to the team’s pitching staff. He will need to settle in quickly and keep the potent San Antonio lineup in check.
On the mound for San Antonio will be Enmanuel Pinales, who enters the game with a 5-5 record and a 6.62 ERA. Pinales has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled with consistency this season. The RoughRiders will look to capitalize on any mistakes, particularly targeting Pinales’ command issues and his tendency to give up extra-base hits.
What to Watch:
The RoughRiders’ offense has been a strength in recent games, with key contributors like Abimelec Ortiz and Cam Cauley leading the charge. Ortiz, in particular, has been on a tear, and his ability to get on base and drive in runs will be crucial to Frisco’s success in the series. Additionally, the bullpen, led by Carrillo and Collyer, has been solid and will need to continue their strong performances to close out games.
For San Antonio, the focus will be on their power hitters like Ortiz and Gómez, who have the ability to change the game with one swing. However, Frisco’s pitching staff has been effective in keeping opposing hitters off balance, and if Trentadue can settle in early, the RoughRiders have a good chance to build on their momentum.
Looking Ahead:
With a win already in the bag, the RoughRiders will aim to make it two in a row and extend their lead in the series. San Antonio, however, will be eager to bounce back and even things up, making for a competitive and exciting matchup on Wednesday night.
