MiLB Game Preview: Frisco RoughRiders vs. San Antonio Missions – July 31, 2025

Frisco, TX (July 31, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders (11-18, 49-48) were handed a 7-4 defeat by the San Antonio Missions (13-16, 52-46) on Wednesday night at Riders Field, as the Missions took a commanding lead late in the game and never looked back. After a back-and-forth battle through the first seven innings, the Missions’ offense pulled away in the eighth inning, capitalizing on key hits to secure the win.

Missions Strike First

San Antonio wasted no time taking the lead in the top of the first inning. Moisés Gómez crushed a two-run home run, giving the Missions an early 2-0 advantage. It was a statement start for the visitors, but Frisco answered back quickly in the bottom of the inning. Abimelec Ortiz, continuing his recent power surge, smacked a solo blast to trim the lead to 2-1. Ortiz’s homer marked his second consecutive game with a long ball, and it brought the RoughRiders right back into the game.

Missions Extend the Lead

In the top of the second, the Missions extended their lead with another run. Albert Fabian lifted a sacrifice fly, scoring a run and giving San Antonio a 3-1 lead. The RoughRiders, however, weren’t ready to fold. Frisco fought back in the bottom of the third inning, with Cam Cauley delivering an RBI single to make it 3-2. After Cauley reached base, he attempted to steal second. San Antonio shortstop Francisco Acuña dropped the throw, allowing Luis Mieses to score and tie the game 3-3. The RoughRiders’ heads-up base running and aggressive offense kept them alive, and the game was all square heading into the middle innings.

Missions Pull Away

The Missions took the lead again in the top of the sixth, with Marcos Castañon lining an RBI single to make it 4-3. From there, the RoughRiders struggled to contain San Antonio’s offense. In the top of the seventh, Brandon Valenzuela added another RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-3. The Missions weren’t finished yet. In the top of the eighth, Devin Ortiz hit a two-run double, further extending the lead to 7-3. It was a decisive blow for San Antonio, and one that would prove difficult for the RoughRiders to recover from.

Late Push Comes Up Short

Frisco wasn’t going to go down without a fight, though. In the bottom of the eighth, Ortiz delivered another RBI single, bringing the RoughRiders within 7-4. However, despite getting runners on base in the final frame, the RoughRiders couldn’t capitalize, and the Missions bullpen, led by Tyson Neighbors, held strong to secure the win. Neighbors earned the save after a scoreless ninth inning, closing the door on any hopes of a Frisco comeback.

Pitching Breakdown

San Antonio starter Enmanuel Pinales (6-5) earned the win, pitching six strong innings. He allowed three runs on six hits, struck out four, and walked two. Pinales was efficient, holding the RoughRiders to just one run over the final five innings after a shaky start.

For Frisco, reliever Daniel Missaki (0-3) took the loss after allowing one run in one inning of relief. While Missaki’s outing didn’t help the RoughRiders’ cause, it was a collective effort from the bullpen, which was asked to maintain a close game that ultimately slipped away in the eighth inning.

Key Takeaways

  • Abimelec Ortiz continued his power surge, homering for the second straight game and adding an RBI single later in the contest. Ortiz has been a bright spot for the RoughRiders, showing his consistency and power at the plate.

  • Cam Cauley contributed with an RBI single and continues to pace the team in multi-hit games this season.

  • San Antonio’s late-game offense proved to be too much for the RoughRiders, as timely hitting in the seventh and eighth innings allowed the Missions to pull away.

  • Pinales’ solid start for the Missions was key, as the right-hander was able to limit the RoughRiders’ offense after the first inning, giving his team a chance to take control.
