MiLB Game Recap: Drake Dominates, Mieses Powers Frisco to Third-Straight Win Over Tulsa

FRISCO, Texas (June 25, 2025) — Behind a lights-out performance from left-hander Kohl Drake and an early blast from Luis Mieses, the Frisco RoughRiders rolled to their third consecutive victory with a 3-1 win over the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday night at Riders Field.

Frisco (40-30) did all its damage in the opening frame. Cam Cauley reached and came around to score on a throwing error by Tulsa catcher Griffin Lockwood-Powell. Moments later, Mieses crushed his 11th home run of the season—a two-run shot to right—to give the RoughRiders a quick 3-0 lead. Mieses continues to anchor the lineup, now tied for third in the Texas League in home runs and ranking second in slugging percentage at .472.

Tulsa (26-45) didn’t get on the scoreboard until the eighth inning when Kole Myers legged out an infield single to drive in a run, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Frisco reliever Avery Weems quelled the threat by inducing a critical groundout to end the inning with the tying run at the plate.

Skylar Hales slammed the door in the ninth, working around a leadoff single to earn his fifth save of the year. The right-hander sealed the win with a slick 3-6-1 double play, snapping any hopes of a late Tulsa rally.

The story of the night was once again the brilliance of Kohl Drake (4-3), who earned his third quality start of the season. Drake fired six shutout innings, surrendering just two hits and two walks while striking out four. Over his last three outings, Drake has yielded only one earned run, and his 0.50 ERA since June 11 ranks third in all of Minor League Baseball among qualified pitchers.

Notables:

  • Cam Cauley and Sebastian Walcott combined to go 4-for-8, each tallying a multi-hit performance.

  • Mieses has now recorded 22 extra-base hits among his 49 total hits this season.

  • Despite taking the loss, Tulsa starter Brandon Neeck (2-4) was backed by a strong bullpen performance, as Drillers relievers tossed 7.1 shutout innings to keep the game close.
