Amarillo, TX (July 13, 2025) — The Frisco RoughRiders wrapped up their six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles with authority, securing a dominant 9-1 victory on Sunday night at HODGETOWN. Behind a lights-out performance from starter Trey Supak and a relentless offensive showing, Frisco (7-11, 45-41) halted a two-game skid and enters the All-Star Break on a high note.
Supak (6-3) delivered his best outing of the season, firing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits. The right-hander fanned seven and walked one, effectively quieting a Sod Poodles (10-8, 42-45) lineup that had proven dangerous throughout the series. Supak’s command and tempo set the tone early, and the RoughRiders never looked back.
Early Momentum Sets the Tone
Frisco wasted no time jumping on Amarillo starter Alec Baker (2-3), scoring twice in the opening frame. Josh Hatcher lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, which turned into a two-run play thanks to an obstruction call at second base. The unusual sequence gave the RoughRiders a 2-0 cushion and an early mental edge.
The Riders kept pressure on in the second, adding another run when Frainyer Chavez grounded out to score Hatcher, stretching the lead to 3-0. It was a textbook example of situational hitting as Frisco capitalized on early traffic and defensive miscues.
Fourth-Inning Barrage Breaks it Open
The fourth inning proved decisive, as Frisco erupted for five runs. Ian Moller ignited the rally with an RBI double to left-center. Moments later, Chavez reached on an error by the Sod Poodles infield, plating two more. With runners still aboard, Hatcher stepped in and continued his strong day with a two-run single, blowing the game open at 8-0.
It was Hatcher’s second multi-RBI game of the series and further solidified his role as a catalyst in the Frisco offense. The RoughRiders’ ability to keep the line moving, paired with aggressive baserunning and Amarillo’s defensive lapses, defined the inning.
Ortiz Goes Deep
The final offensive highlight came in the seventh when Abimelec Ortiz launched a solo home run to right field, his 12th of the season. The blast moved Ortiz back into the team lead in home runs and punctuated a strong individual stretch for the power-hitting first baseman.
Frisco finished the night with nine runs on 10 hits and benefited from three Amarillo errors. Every RoughRiders starter reached base, showcasing the lineup’s depth and balance.
Bullpen Locks it Down
Following Supak’s impressive six innings, relievers Ryan Lobus and Gerardo Carrillo kept Amarillo at bay, tossing scoreless frames in the seventh and ninth respectively. The only blemish came in the eighth when Manuel Peña drove in a run with an RBI single, but it was far too little, too late for the Sod Poodles.
Carrillo closed the door with a clean ninth, securing the Riders’ most lopsided win of the series and one of their most complete performances of the second half.
