MiLB Game Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Secure 4-2 Victory Over San Antonio Missions

Frisco, Texas (July 29, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders earned a hard-fought 4-2 win over the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday night at Riders Field, in a game that saw strong performances from both the offense and pitching staff.

Early Action: Missions Strike First

San Antonio (12-16, 51-46) wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, with Devin Ortiz leading off the game by crushing a solo home run in the top of the first inning. The Missions quickly took a 1-0 lead, but that would be the only time they would hold the advantage on the night.

RoughRiders Answer Back

Frisco (10-18, 48-48) responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, starting with a sacrifice fly from Keyber Rodriguez that tied the game at 1-1. Moments later, Cam Cauley delivered a clutch RBI single to put the RoughRiders ahead 2-1. It was a sign of things to come, as the Riders continued to show resilience throughout the game.

Key Hits and Solid Defense

The action continued in the bottom of the seventh inning when Rodriguez struck again, this time with an RBI single that extended Frisco’s lead to 3-1. However, the Missions weren’t ready to roll over. Moisés Gómez responded for San Antonio with a powerful RBI double, trimming the RoughRiders’ lead to 3-2. Despite the threat, Frisco reliever Gavin Collyer kept his composure and induced an inning-ending flyout to prevent further damage.

Ortiz Provides Insurance

In the bottom of the eighth, Abimelec Ortiz, who had already been making noise all night, gave the RoughRiders some much-needed insurance with a solo home run. Ortiz’s blast, which cleared the left-field fence, stretched the lead to 4-2 and helped the team feel more secure heading into the final frame.

Strong Relief and Carrillo Closes It Out

Frisco’s bullpen, led by Gerardo Carrillo, sealed the win with a dominant ninth inning. Carrillo, who continues to impress with his consistency, pitched a shutout frame to earn his third save of the season. Notably, Carrillo has now gone 10 consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run, a streak that ties him for the sixth-longest active streak in the Texas League.

Pitching Breakdown: Bratt Earns the Win

RoughRiders starter Mitch Bratt (6-3) earned the win after allowing the early leadoff home run to Ortiz but settling in afterward. Bratt was solid over his 5.2 innings, retiring 14 of his final 20 batters to finish with two earned runs allowed and six strikeouts. His performance helped keep the Missions at bay after their initial surge.

On the other side, Missions reliever Jared Kollar (0-5) took the loss, giving up three runs over four innings of work in relief. While he kept the game competitive, Kollar’s inability to keep Frisco from extending its lead proved to be costly.

Notable Performances: Ortiz Shines

Ortiz had a standout night, going 3-for-4 and finishing just a triple shy of the cycle. He continues his scorching hot stretch, batting a league-best .425 (17-for-40) over his last 10 games, with three home runs and seven RBIs. Ortiz’s performance continues to be a bright spot for the RoughRiders’ offense.

Looking Ahead:

The RoughRiders will face the Missions again on Wednesday, July 30, at 7:05 p.m. from Riders Field. The team has yet to announce a starting pitcher for the game, but San Antonio will send right-hander Enmanuel Pinales (5-5, 6.62 ERA) to the mound.

Notes:

  • Carrillo has now thrown 10 straight appearances without allowing an earned run, showcasing his dominance out of the bullpen.

  • Ortiz’s 3-for-4 night pushed his average to a scorching .425 over his last 10 games.

With a strong performance in all phases of the game, the RoughRiders will look to build on their 4-2 victory as they continue their series against San Antonio.
