MiLB Game Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Unleashes Chaos: 10-Run Inning Powers Riders to Series Win

STWF Sports | CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | April 3, 2026 The Frisco RoughRiders turned a tight contest into a runaway Friday night, exploding for 10 runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Corpus Christi Hooks 10-2 at Whataburger Field and secure the series victory.

Frisco (2-0) showcased both resilience and offensive firepower, overcoming an early deficit before delivering one of the most dominant innings in franchise history. The decisive fifth inning featured 10 runs on nine hits, with 15 batters stepping to the plate in a relentless offensive surge that overwhelmed Corpus Christi (0-2).

Early Pitching Duel Sets the Stage

The game opened as a controlled matchup between two starting pitchers finding early rhythm. Corpus Christi struck first in the third inning when Joseph Sullivan delivered an RBI single off Frisco starter Dylan MacLean, giving the Hooks a 1-0 lead.

McPherson, meanwhile, held the RoughRiders scoreless through four innings, striking out seven and limiting hard contact. His command kept Frisco’s lineup in check—until the fifth inning changed everything.

MacLean, making his Double-A debut, settled in after the early run and delivered a composed outing. The left-hander allowed just one run on three hits over five innings, striking out six and walking two to earn his first win at the Double-A level.

Fifth-Inning Avalanche

Frisco’s offensive breakthrough began with a spark and quickly turned into an onslaught.

Marcus Lee Sang opened the inning with a single, setting the stage for Keith Jones II, who delivered a game-tying triple off the left-field wall. Moments later, Tucker Mitchell followed with an RBI double, giving Frisco its first lead at 2-1.

The momentum continued to build. After a walk to Frainyer Chavez, top prospect Dylan Dreiling delivered the biggest swing of the night—a three-run home run to left field, marking his first career Double-A homer and extending the lead to 5-1.

But the RoughRiders were far from finished.

Ian Moller added an RBI single, while Lee Sang, Mitchell and Dreiling each contributed additional run-scoring hits in the inning. By the time the Hooks recorded the third out, Frisco had sent 15 batters to the plate and turned a one-run deficit into a commanding 10-1 advantage.

The 10-run outburst tied for the second-most runs scored in a single inning in franchise history, a testament to both the lineup’s depth and its ability to capitalize on momentum.

Bullpen Locks It Down

With a substantial lead in hand, the RoughRiders’ bullpen ensured there would be no comeback attempt.

Frisco’s relief corps combined for four innings of effective work, allowing just one unearned run while maintaining control of the game. The pitching staff as a whole continued its strong start to the season, complementing an offense that has quickly found its rhythm.

Offensive Firepower on Display

The RoughRiders finished the night with 12 hits, building on their 14-hit performance from Opening Day. Through two games, Frisco has totaled 26 hits—the most in franchise history over that span.

Mitchell continued his hot start, going 2-for-4 with two RBI doubles and improving to 5-for-7 on the season. His early production ties a franchise record for hits through the first two games.

Dreiling delivered a breakout performance, driving in four runs in the fifth inning alone while recording his first Double-A home run. Jones and Lee Sang also played key roles in the offensive explosion, each contributing timely hits during the pivotal frame.

Momentum Builds

With the victory, Frisco not only secured the series but also reinforced its early-season identity—an offense capable of sustained pressure and a pitching staff that limits opportunities.

The RoughRiders will look to complete a three-game sweep on Saturday night, with right-hander David Davalillo scheduled to take the mound against Corpus Christi’s Brett Gillis.

Two games into the 2026 season, Frisco has made a statement. If Friday night’s fifth inning is any indication, the RoughRiders possess the firepower to turn any game in an instant—and the consistency to make that threat real.
