MiLB Game Recap: Late-Inning Collapse Dooms Frisco RoughRiders in 7-6 Nail-Biter vs Midland RockHounds

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | April 9, 2026 — For the second consecutive night, the Frisco RoughRiders found themselves on the wrong end of a razor-thin margin, falling 7-6 to the Midland RockHounds at Riders Field. Despite multiple momentum swings and a late comeback effort, Frisco could not hold off Midland’s eighth-inning rally, dropping to 4-2 on the young season.

Frisco RoughRiders Show Resilience in Nail-Biting Games

Midland (5-1) wasted little time setting the tone, pushing across a run in the top of the first inning. Frisco answered immediately, showing early resilience behind a power swing from Dylan Dreiling. The outfielder turned on a pitch from Midland starter Jamie Arnold, launching a two-run homer that gave the RoughRiders a 2-1 advantage and energized the home crowd.

Making his 2026 debut, right-hander Winston Santos provided a solid, if brief, outing. Santos struck out three batters over 2.1 innings, navigating early traffic before exiting with the game tied at 2-2. His command showed flashes of promise, though Midland’s lineup remained persistent at the plate.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when Midland’s Tommy White delivered a clutch moment. White ripped a bases-clearing double into the gap, flipping a tight contest into a 5-2 RockHounds lead and forcing Frisco into comeback mode.

The RoughRiders responded with grit. In the fifth inning, Ian Moller came through with a two-run single, trimming the deficit and keeping Frisco within striking distance. The offense continued to chip away before breaking through in the seventh inning. Julian Brock delivered the biggest swing of the night for Frisco, blasting a two-run home run off Midland reliever Jared Johnson to give the RoughRiders a 6-5 lead.

That momentum was further amplified moments earlier by a historic performance on the mound. Right-hander Zach Bryant etched his name into the Riders Field record books by tossing an immaculate inning—striking out the 2-3-4 hitters on just nine pitches, all high-velocity fastballs. It marked the first immaculate inning for Frisco since the 2024 season finale and injected life into the dugout at a critical juncture.

However, Midland answered yet again.

In the eighth inning, the RockHounds capitalized on their opportunities against reliever Ryan Lobus. Midland strung together timely hits to plate two runs, reclaiming a 7-6 lead and silencing the Frisco crowd. Lobus (1-1) was tagged with the loss after the decisive frame.

Frisco made one final push in the ninth. Facing Midland closer Stevie Emanuels, the RoughRiders put two runners on base, threatening to extend the game. But Emanuels remained composed, inducing a ground ball off the bat of Keyber Rodriguez to secure his first save and seal the win for Midland.

Despite the loss, several individual performances stood out for Frisco. Frainyer Chavez delivered a career-tying night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four singles and scoring twice. His consistency at the top of the lineup provided a steady offensive spark.

Rodriguez also continued his scorching start to the season. With two more hits, he now has 11 through six games, tying for the Texas League lead while extending his hitting streak to six games. The infielder has already recorded four multi-hit performances, establishing himself as one of the league’s early offensive standouts.

While the result marks a frustrating back-to-back one-run defeat, the RoughRiders have shown an ability to respond under pressure and generate offense in key situations. The challenge now lies in closing out tight games.

Frisco will look to rebound Friday night at Riders Field, sending right-hander Leandro Lopez (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Midland’s Corey Avant (0-0, 5.40). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with fans also able to enjoy a Youth Sunglasses Giveaway and postgame fireworks as part of the evening’s promotions
