MiLB Game Recap: RoughRiders Fall 7-4 to San Antonio Missions

Frisco, TX (July 30, 2025) – The Frisco RoughRiders (10-19, 48-49) were edged by the San Antonio Missions (13-16, 52-46) in a 7-4 defeat on Wednesday night at Riders Field. Despite a late-game surge and another strong performance from Abimelec Ortiz, the RoughRiders were unable to overcome San Antonio’s timely hitting and solid pitching.

Missions Take Early Lead

San Antonio struck first in the top of the first inning. Moisés Gómez launched a two-run home run, giving the Missions an early 2-0 lead. The RoughRiders quickly responded in the bottom of the frame, as Ortiz—fresh off a home run the night before—hit a solo shot to pull Frisco within 2-1. The game was off to an exciting start, with both teams swinging the bat well early on.

San Antonio Extends the Lead

The Missions didn’t take long to regain momentum, as Albert Fabian lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in another run in the top of the second, making it 3-1. While the RoughRiders’ offense showed promise, they couldn’t quite break through San Antonio’s pitching.

RoughRiders Battle Back

Frisco continued to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Cam Cauley led off with an RBI single, pulling the RoughRiders within one. On the ensuing play, Cauley attempted to steal second, and when San Antonio shortstop Francisco Acuña mishandled the throw, Luis Mieses came in to score, tying the game at 3-3. It was a hard-fought effort from the RoughRiders, but their rally would be short-lived.

Missions Pull Ahead

San Antonio regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Marcos Castañon slapped an RBI single to make it 4-3. The Missions then tacked on more insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. In the top of the seventh, Brandon Valenzuela drove in another run, pushing the lead to 5-3. In the top of the eighth, Devin Ortiz added a two-run double, extending the Missions’ lead to 7-3.

Late-Game Push Falls Short

The RoughRiders didn’t go down without a fight. In the bottom of the eighth, Ortiz delivered an RBI single, bringing Frisco back within three at 7-4. However, despite a strong push, the RoughRiders were unable to capitalize on any further opportunities.

Pitching Breakdown: Pinales Gets the Win, Missaki Takes the Loss

San Antonio starter Enmanuel Pinales (6-5) earned the win, tossing six solid innings and allowing three runs on six hits. The left-hander struck out four and issued one walk in the victory. On the flip side, Frisco’s reliever Daniel Missaki (0-3) took the loss after allowing one run over one inning of work. Missions reliever Tyson Neighbors came in to close things out and recorded the save.

Notable Performances

  • Abimelec Ortiz continued his hot streak, homering in back-to-back games and in four of his last 11 contests. His bat has been a consistent source of power for the RoughRiders this season.

  • Cam Cauley continues to lead the team in multi-hit games, with 27 already in 2025.

  • Josh Trentadue, making his Double-A debut, pitched four innings, retiring the final nine batters he faced after giving up three earned runs. It was an encouraging start for the left-hander, showing resilience after early struggles.
