FRISCO, Texas — Behind a dominant start from Trey Supak and a breakout night from Tucker Mitchell and Abimelec Ortiz, the Frisco RoughRiders (38-30) cruised to an 8-1 victory over the San Antonio Missions (39-30) on Tuesday night at Riders Field.
Frisco struck early and never looked back. In the bottom of the second inning, Tucker Mitchell opened the scoring with an RBI single up the middle off San Antonio starter Luis Patiño (0-1), putting the RoughRiders ahead 1-0.
The offense kept rolling in the third. With runners on, Abimelec Ortiz ripped a two-run single to right field, and Mitchell followed with another two-run knock, capping a four-run frame that extended the lead to 5-0.
That cushion was more than enough for Trey Supak (5-2), who turned in one of his most efficient outings of the season. The right-hander tossed five strong innings, allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Supak scattered five hits, struck out eight, and issued no walks in a sharp performance that lowered his ERA to 3.22.
In the eighth, Luis Mieses added a bit of power to the mix, crushing a solo home run — his 10th of the season — to become the first RoughRiders player to reach double-digit homers in 2024. Moments later, Jax Biggers crossed the plate on a wild pitch, stretching the lead to 7-1.
Ortiz capped off his night with an RBI double in the ninth, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBIs to pace the offense.
The RoughRiders’ bullpen locked down the final four innings, combining for four scoreless frames and three strikeouts. The win pulls Frisco within a half-game of San Antonio in the Texas League South standings as the first-half playoff race heats up.
