MiLB Game Recap: Walcott Tallies Three Hits, But Frisco Shut Out 4-0 by Missions in Finale

FRISCO, Texas (August 3, 2025) — Despite a strong night at the plate from rising star Sebastian Walcott, the Frisco RoughRiders couldn’t muster enough offense, falling 4-0 to the San Antonio Missions on Sunday evening at Riders Field. The loss capped off a six-game set in which the two clubs split the series, 3-3, leaving both teams searching for momentum as the playoff push heats up.

The defeat dropped Frisco to 12-21 in the second half (50-51 overall), while San Antonio improved to 15-18 (54-48 overall).

Missions Strike Early

San Antonio jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning when Marcos Castañon scored on a wild pitch, giving the Missions a 1-0 lead. An inning later, Romeo Sanabria extended the advantage with a solo home run, a no-doubt shot that landed deep beyond the left-field wall to make it 2-0.

Though Frisco’s pitching staff settled in to keep the Missions off the board for the next four innings, San Antonio capitalized again in the seventh. With two on and one out, Moisés Gomez slapped an infield single that turned into a run after a throwing error allowed Francisco Acuña to score. The miscue widened the gap to 3-0.

In the ninth, Sanabria added insurance with a sacrifice fly, pushing the Missions’ lead to 4-0 and all but sealing the outcome.

Pitching Tells the Story

For San Antonio, right-hander Jared Kollar (1-5) picked up his first win of the season in impressive fashion. Kollar worked 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out four, showcasing the type of efficiency the Missions had been waiting for from their struggling starter.

“Jared gave us exactly what we needed,” Missions manager Luke Montz said. “He attacked hitters, worked ahead in counts, and let our defense make plays.”

The Missions’ bullpen took it from there, with Ethan Routzahn recording the final three outs in the ninth to lock down the win.

Frisco starter Josh Stephan (5-5) took the loss, yielding two runs on five hits across 3.2 innings. Reliever Jackson Kelley provided a bright spot for the RoughRiders, tossing 2.1 shutout frames out of the bullpen. Kelley has now posted scoreless outings in five of his last six appearances.

Walcott Shines in Defeat

While the RoughRiders were blanked on the scoreboard, Sebastian Walcott stood out offensively, collecting three hits in four trips to the plate. The 18-year-old infielder notched his fourth three-hit game of the season, continuing to show why he’s one of the Texas Rangers’ most highly regarded prospects.

“Sebastian’s development has been a big positive for us,” RoughRiders manager Carlos Cardoza said. “He competes every at-bat and continues to give us quality swings. Nights like this show his potential.”

However, the Riders struggled to string hits together outside of Walcott’s production, leaving runners on base in key situations. Frisco went just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, a factor that ultimately cost them the chance to mount a comeback.

Series Ends Even

The Missions and RoughRiders finished the six-game series tied at three wins apiece. San Antonio leaned on power bats like Castañon and Sanabria, while Frisco relied on emerging young talent and strong bullpen performances to stay competitive.

“This was a good, hard-fought series,” Cardoza added. “We had opportunities, and now we need to build on the positives as we hit the road.”

What’s Next

Frisco now heads on the road for a six-game series against the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The set begins Tuesday, August 5, and runs through Sunday, August 10. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

As the season moves deeper into August, the RoughRiders remain in the thick of the race, but consistency — particularly at the plate — will be key to keeping their postseason hopes alive.
