MiLB Preview: Dalton Pence Takes the Mound as RoughRiders Seek Fourth Straight Win in San Antonio

STWF Sports | SAN ANTONIO, Texas | July 25, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to continue their commanding run at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium on Saturday night when they face the San Antonio Missions at 7:05 p.m. in the fifth game of a six-game series.

Left-hander Dalton Pence is scheduled to start for Frisco against San Antonio right-hander Andrew Thurman. Pence enters the matchup with a 2-2 record and a 2.49 ERA, while Thurman is 1-5 with a 5.94 ERA for the Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Frisco carries a three-game winning streak into Saturday after producing another complete performance in Friday night’s 10-0 victory. The RoughRiders improved to 15-10 in the second half and 54-39 overall, while San Antonio fell to 11-14 and 42-52.

Dalton Pence: Key to the RoughRiders’ Success

For the second consecutive night, the Missions failed to score against Frisco’s pitching staff.

Texas Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford opened Friday’s game with three scoreless innings during his Major League rehabilitation appearance. Bradford allowed three hits and struck out four before Aidan Curry took over and dominated into the ninth inning.

Curry worked 5.2 scoreless frames, surrendered only two hits and recorded six strikeouts. Thomas Ireland entered with two outs in the ninth and struck out the final batter to complete Frisco’s second straight shutout.

The consecutive shutouts marked the first time the RoughRiders had accomplished the feat since June 6-7, 2024, against Corpus Christi. Frisco enters Saturday riding a 20-inning scoreless streak, tied for the eighth-longest run in franchise history. The club has never recorded shutouts in three consecutive games.

Pence will attempt to extend that streak against a San Antonio lineup that has struggled to solve Frisco pitching throughout the series.

The RoughRiders have controlled the Missions at Wolff Stadium for several seasons. Since 2021, Frisco is 46-19 at the ballpark with a 2.51 team ERA. The Riders have outscored San Antonio 324-181 during that span and have recorded 11 shutouts, their highest total at any visiting stadium.

Frisco’s offense has been equally impressive.

The RoughRiders broke open Friday’s game with five consecutive two-out hits during a five-run fifth inning. Sebastian Walcott, Dylan Dreiling and Frainyer Chavez each contributed run-scoring hits as Frisco turned a one-run advantage into a 6-0 lead.

Walcott continued his strong return from right elbow surgery by matching his career high with four hits and three runs scored. Through his first six games of the season, the Texas Rangers’ top prospect is batting .400 with three doubles, one home run, four RBIs, two stolen bases and seven runs.

Dreiling also extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest by a RoughRiders player this season. During the streak, he is batting .423 with six doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs. His .296 season average ranks fourth in the Texas League.

Max Wagner remains another major threat in Frisco’s lineup. Wagner has nine home runs over his last 23 games and ranks among the Texas League leaders in slugging percentage and OPS during that stretch.

The RoughRiders have built one of the most productive offenses in Double-A. They lead the level with 850 hits and pace the Texas League in batting average, doubles, slugging percentage and OPS. Their 127 home runs are already a franchise record, while their average of 6.2 runs per game is also the highest in club history.

Frisco has been especially dangerous late, scoring a Double-A-best 199 runs in the seventh inning or later.

Already guaranteed a postseason appearance after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, the RoughRiders continue to play with urgency. A strong outing from Pence and another productive night from the lineup could give Frisco its fourth consecutive victory and move the club closer to securing the series.
