STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 12, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to bounce back Wednesday night when they host the San Antonio Missions in the second game of a six-game series at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT, with right-hander D.J. McCarty taking the mound for Frisco against San Antonio left-hander Fernando Sanchez. McCarty enters at 0-2 with an 11.37 ERA, while Sanchez is 1-2 with a 6.23 ERA.
Frisco enters Wednesday at 20-20 in the second half and 59-48 overall after dropping Tuesday’s series opener 7-4.
Frisco RoughRiders: Key Strategies for a Successful Season
The RoughRiders fell behind 7-0 before mounting a late comeback. San Antonio scored three times in the second inning against Ben Anderson and continued adding to its advantage through the middle innings. Missions starter Ian Koenig controlled Frisco’s lineup, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing five hits.
Frisco finally broke through in the eighth when Corey Joyce launched a solo home run. The Riders continued closing the gap before Max Wagner opened the ninth with another homer, but the comeback ultimately ended three runs short.
Wagner’s blast was his 14th of the season, establishing a new career high. His power production has been particularly impressive during the second half, as he has hit 10 home runs over his last 33 games while producing a .990 OPS during that stretch.
Wednesday also brings a significant boost to the Frisco lineup with the return of Sebastian Walcott.
The Texas Rangers’ top prospect returned from the seven-day injured list after being hit in the head by a pickoff throw at first base on August 2. Walcott had already made a strong return from offseason internal brace surgery on his right elbow, batting .308 with five doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs across his first 13 games of 2026.
His presence could be especially important for a RoughRiders offense that has cooled considerably.
Over Frisco’s last six games, the club has scored just 15 runs while posting a 1-5 record. The Riders have been shut out twice during that stretch and are batting .222 with runners in scoring position.
Opposing starting pitchers have been particularly effective, combining for a 0.82 ERA over 33 innings during those six games.
One hitter who has avoided the downturn is Arturo Disla.
The recently named Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Month for July has been one of the Texas League’s most productive hitters since July 10. Over 25 games, Disla is batting .344 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 26 RBIs while posting a 1.065 OPS.
Disla ranks among the league leaders in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, doubles and RBIs. He has already tied his career high with 19 home runs and established a new personal best with 26 doubles.
Dylan Dreiling has also remained a major piece of the offense. The Rangers’ No. 10 prospect is hitting .352 over his last 25 games with 10 doubles, six home runs and 19 RBIs. His 17 homers are the most by a RoughRider since Abimelec Ortiz in 2024.
Despite the recent struggles, Frisco remains one of Double-A baseball’s strongest offensive clubs. Through 108 games, the RoughRiders rank second in Double-A with 972 hits and are averaging 5.9 runs per game. Their 201 doubles lead the Texas League, while their .443 slugging percentage and .796 OPS rank second.
The Riders have also been especially dangerous late in games, leading Double-A with 225 runs scored in the seventh inning or later.
That late-game ability was visible Tuesday, even though the comeback fell short.
Frisco has already secured its place in the postseason after winning the Texas League South Division first-half championship with a 39-29 record. Wednesday’s focus, however, will be on rediscovering consistent offense, getting McCarty settled early and evening the series before San Antonio can build additional momentum at Riders Field.
