First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with right-hander Aidan Curry set to start for Frisco. Curry enters the matchup with a 3-3 record and a 5.49 ERA. Northwest Arkansas will counter with right-hander Grant Gambrell, who is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA.
Frisco RoughRiders’ Key Players to Watch
Frisco enters the contest at 27-28 in the second half and 66-57 overall, while Northwest Arkansas sits at 23-32 in the half and 52-70 on the season.
The RoughRiders had a chance to extend their winning streak to three games Friday, but the Naturals answered an early Frisco surge and held on for the victory.
Sebastian Walcott gave the Riders an immediate boost, launching a 426-foot leadoff home run to left field. The blast put Frisco ahead 1-0, but Northwest Arkansas responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Dylan Dreiling tied the game in the third with an RBI double before Sam Kulasingam answered with a two-run homer that restored the Naturals’ advantage. Walcott later doubled and scored on a wild pitch, but Frisco could not erase the deficit.
Walcott’s recent production has been one of the most encouraging developments for the Riders. The Texas Rangers’ top prospect has hit safely in five straight games, batting .421 during that stretch. In his first 26 games this season, Walcott is hitting .295 with 12 doubles, four home runs and a .902 OPS.
Dreiling has been even hotter.
The Rangers’ No. 13 prospect carries a 19-game hitting streak into the matchup, the longest in the Texas League this season. During that stretch, he is batting .420 with seven doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs.
For the season, Dreiling ranks among the league leaders in nearly every major offensive category. He is second in batting average at .314, fourth in OPS at .910 and second with 132 hits. His 21 home runs are the most by a RoughRider since Blaine Crim hit 24 in 2022.
Frisco’s lineup has received additional production from Yeison Morrobel and Max Wagner.
Morrobel enters riding a nine-game hitting streak and is batting .333 since joining Frisco from High-A Hub City. Wagner, meanwhile, has established a career high with 19 home runs, including 15 over his last 46 games.
The Riders remain one of Double-A’s most productive offensive teams. Through 123 games, Frisco leads Double-A with 1,135 hits and a .270 batting average. The club also ranks second with 737 runs, averaging six per game, while leading the Texas League in doubles and slugging percentage.
Pitching remains an important storyline as the postseason approaches. Frisco’s bullpen has handled a heavy workload in August, throwing a Double-A-high 126.1 innings. Over the previous three games, the Riders’ staff owns a 2.42 ERA.
Frisco has already secured its postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title at 39-29. It marks the franchise’s 11th playoff appearance.
With the postseason spot already secured, the final weeks of the regular season give the RoughRiders an opportunity to sharpen their pitching, maintain their offensive rhythm and build momentum for another championship run.
