STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 1, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will try to halt a two-game skid and move back in front of their six-game series against the Corpus Christi Hooks on Saturday night at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with right-hander D.J. McCarty set to make the start for Frisco. McCarty enters at 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA and will oppose Corpus Christi right-hander Bryce Mayer, who carries a 3-2 record and a 2.86 ERA.
Frisco enters the fifth game of the series at 17-14 in the second half and 56-43 overall after dropping Friday’s matchup 3-2. The series is tied at two games apiece.
The RoughRiders jumped ahead immediately Friday when Frainyer Chavez opened the first inning with a single and Dylan Dreiling followed with a two-run home run off Nolan DeVos. Corpus Christi trimmed the deficit in the second on a Cameron Sisneros sacrifice fly before taking the lead in the sixth, capitalizing on two hits and two Frisco defensive errors.
Dallas-area baseball fans have seen plenty of fireworks from the RoughRiders this season, but Friday was a reminder of how thin the margin can be when the offense cools. Frisco placed the potential tying run on base in the eighth, only for Alex Santos II to work out of trouble and secure the save.
Dreiling remains one of the biggest reasons for optimism.
The outfielder has been one of the Texas League’s most productive hitters and enters Saturday batting .288. Over his last 20 games, Dreiling is hitting .341 with seven doubles, six home runs and 15 RBIs. His 17 homers are the most by a RoughRider since Abimelec Ortiz in 2024, and he continues to move closer to the 20-home run threshold.
Frisco’s lineup remains dangerous beyond Dreiling.
Max Wagner has supplied consistent power during the summer, hitting nine home runs over his last 28 games while posting a 1.000 OPS during that span. Yeison Morrobel has also made an immediate impact since joining Frisco from High-A Hub City, batting .326 with five doubles and two home runs through his first 12 games.
Sebastian Walcott continues to work his way back into form following offseason internal brace surgery on his right elbow. Through his first 12 games back, the Rangers’ top prospect is batting .327 with five doubles, three homers, nine RBIs and three stolen bases.
The bigger story, however, remains the overall depth of Frisco’s offense.
The RoughRiders have hit 54 home runs over their last 30 games, the highest total in the Texas League over that span. Their 137 home runs are already a franchise record, while eight different players have reached double figures.
Frisco has also been especially dangerous late in games. The Riders have scored a Double-A-best 204 runs in the seventh inning or later, giving them a consistent ability to pressure opposing bullpens.
Pitching will be just as important Saturday.
Frisco ranks second in the Texas League with 986 strikeouts, and its bullpen continues to give the club opportunities to stay competitive in tight games. That was evident Friday when Bryan Magdaleno and Cole Stasio combined for eight strikeouts in relief.
McCarty will now be tasked with setting the tone against a Corpus Christi club that has recovered nicely after losing the first two games of the series.
The RoughRiders have already clinched a postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but maintaining momentum remains important as the second half progresses.
With the series tied 2-2, Saturday’s matchup carries added weight.
A Frisco win would stop the two-game slide, restore confidence to the offense and put the RoughRiders in position to claim the series in Sunday’s finale.
