MiLB Preview: Frisco RoughRiders Look to Salvage Series Finale Against Northwest Arkansas

STWF Sports| SPRINGDALE, Ark.| August 30, 2026  — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to finish their road trip on a positive note Sunday afternoon when they face the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the finale of a six-game series at Arvest Ballpark.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. on Aug. 30, with left-hander Thomas Ireland taking the mound for Frisco. Ireland enters the matchup with a 1-0 record and a 10.34 ERA. Northwest Arkansas will counter with left-hander Chase Jessee, who is 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA.

Frisco enters the finale at 27-29 in the second half and 66-58 overall after suffering a difficult 8-7 walk-off loss Saturday night. The defeat was the RoughRiders’ second straight and gave Northwest Arkansas a 3-2 advantage in the series.

Frisco RoughRiders: A Look at Their Season

The Riders appeared positioned to take control Saturday after erasing an early three-run deficit with a five-run fourth inning. Marcus Lee Sang and Max Wagner each homered during the rally, helping Frisco build a 5-3 advantage.

Northwest Arkansas responded late, eventually taking a 7-5 lead before Frisco tied the game with runs in the eighth and ninth innings. The Naturals ultimately won when a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth brought home the deciding run.

Despite the loss, Frisco’s offense continues to rank among the most productive units in Double-A.

Outfielder Dylan Dreiling enters Sunday riding a 20-game hitting streak, the longest in the Texas League this season. During that stretch, the Rangers’ No. 13 prospect is batting .424 with seven doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs.

For the season, Dreiling ranks second in the Texas League with a .315 batting average and 134 hits while sitting fourth with a .912 OPS. His 21 home runs are the most by a RoughRider since Blaine Crim hit 24 in 2022.

Dreiling and Wagner have also joined rare company in franchise history.

With Wagner reaching 20 home runs Saturday, the duo became the first pair of RoughRiders teammates to each hit at least 20 homers in the same season since Mike Olt and Chris McGuiness accomplished the feat in 2012.

Wagner has been especially dangerous during the second half. Over his last 47 games, he has hit 16 home runs with 38 RBIs and a .959 OPS. His 16 homers from the eighth and ninth spots in the batting order are the most in Minor League Baseball.

Yeison Morrobel has provided another consistent bat since joining Frisco from High-A Hub City. Morrobel carries a 10-game hitting streak into Sunday, batting .452 during that span with five multi-hit performances.

Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott has also been productive since returning from elbow surgery. Walcott is batting .295 through his first 26 games with 12 doubles, four homers and seven stolen bases.

Collectively, Frisco leads Double-A with 1,144 hits and a .270 batting average. The Riders are also second in runs with 744 and lead the Texas League in doubles and slugging percentage.

One area the club will look to stabilize Sunday is its pitching workload.

Frisco’s bullpen has thrown a Double-A-high 129 innings in August, averaging more than five innings per game. That usage has increased pressure on a relief corps carrying a 4.95 ERA this month, while the starting rotation owns a league-worst 6.35 ERA in August.

Sunday’s finale represents another opportunity for the playoff-bound RoughRiders to sharpen their form. Frisco secured the Texas League South Division first-half title in June, clinching its 11th postseason appearance in franchise history.

With October-style baseball approaching, the Riders will look to leave Springdale with a series split and renewed momentum for the final stretch of the regular season.
