STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 2, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to halt a three-game losing streak and close their homestand on a positive note Sunday evening when they host the Corpus Christi Hooks in the finale of a six-game series at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Left-hander Blake Townsend will start for Frisco against Corpus Christi right-hander James Hicks. Townsend enters the matchup with a 3-5 record and a 5.66 ERA, while Hicks is 5-9 with a 5.17 ERA.
Frisco enters the finale at 17-15 in the second half and 56-44 overall after suffering a 7-0 loss Saturday. Corpus Christi improved to 17-15 and 48-53 with the victory and has now won three consecutive games after dropping the first two contests of the series.
Saturday’s game got away from Frisco quickly.
The Hooks scored three runs in the opening inning against starter D.J. McCarty before he could complete the frame. Thomas Ireland entered in relief and stabilized the game, working 3.1 innings before allowing a run in the fifth.
Ireland’s response was one of the brighter moments for Frisco. After a difficult outing earlier in the series, he allowed only two hits and one run while striking out six.
Corpus Christi starter Bryce Mayer controlled the other side of the matchup, throwing six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. He surrendered only three hits and did not issue a walk as the RoughRiders struggled to generate sustained offense.
The Hooks added two runs in the eighth on RBI singles from Yamal Encarnacion and Jason Schiavone before Chase Call finished the scoring with a solo home run in the ninth.
Frisco managed six hits, with Dylan Dreiling collecting two, including a double.
Dreiling remains one of the hottest bats in the Texas League despite the recent team struggles. He enters Sunday batting .290 and ranks among the league leaders in hits, total bases, OPS and runs scored. Over his last 21 games, he is hitting .349 with eight doubles, six home runs and 15 RBIs.
His 17 home runs are the most by a RoughRider since Abimelec Ortiz reached that mark in 2024. No Frisco player has hit 20 in a season since Blaine Crim launched 24 in 2022.
Yeison Morrobel has also continued to make an impact since his promotion from High-A Hub City. He has recorded a hit in 11 of his first 13 games with Frisco and is batting .326 with five doubles, two home runs and a .957 OPS.
Sebastian Walcott remains another key figure to watch. The Rangers’ top prospect is batting .308 through his first 13 games since returning from internal brace surgery, with five doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs and three stolen bases.
Frisco’s offense remains one of the most dangerous in Double-A despite being shut out Saturday.
The RoughRiders have hit 54 home runs over their last 31 games, the highest total in the Texas League during that stretch. Their 137 home runs through 100 games are a franchise record, while eight different players have already reached double figures.
Frisco also leads the Texas League in batting average and doubles and ranks among the league leaders in slugging percentage, OPS and runs scored.
The pitching staff brings its own milestone into Sunday. Frisco has recorded 999 strikeouts this season, meaning the Riders need just one more to reach 1,000. That total is already the second-highest in franchise history through 100 games.
Townsend will be asked to help steady a staff that has been tested during the three-game skid.
The RoughRiders have already secured a postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but Sunday still carries importance. A victory would prevent Corpus Christi from taking four straight, earn Frisco a split in the six-game set and send the club into its next series with some renewed momentum.
