MiLB Preview: Frisco RoughRiders Seek Series Victory in Finale Against Missions

STWF Sports | SAN ANTONIO, Texas | July 26, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to close their road trip with a series victory Sunday evening when they face the San Antonio Missions at 6:05 p.m. in the finale of a six-game set at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for Frisco against San Antonio right-hander Eric Yost. Townsend enters with a 3-4 record and a 5.35 ERA, while Yost is 4-2 with a 3.41 ERA for the Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Frisco carries a 3-2 series advantage into the finale after its three-game winning streak ended with a 4-3 loss Saturday night. The RoughRiders fell to 15-11 in the second half and 54-40 overall, while San Antonio improved to 12-14 and 43-52.

The Riders opened Saturday’s game with immediate offense, using three first-inning doubles from Sebastian Walcott, Arturo Disla and Keith Jones II to build a 2-0 lead against Andrew Thurman.

San Antonio responded in the bottom half when Jake Cunningham hit a two-run home run off Dalton Pence. Frisco moved back in front during the second inning on an RBI single from Walcott, but Cunningham struck again with a run-scoring double in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

The Missions took the lead in the sixth against Zach Bryant before Josh Mallitz retired the final nine Frisco hitters to earn a three-inning save. After Walcott’s second-inning single, San Antonio pitching set down 20 consecutive RoughRiders to finish the game.

Frisco will attempt to regain its offensive rhythm against Yost after being held without a baserunner over the final seven innings Saturday. Despite the quiet finish, the RoughRiders remain one of the most productive offensive teams in Double-A.

Through 94 games, Frisco leads Double-A with 856 hits and tops the Texas League with a .268 batting average. The Riders also lead the league in doubles, slugging percentage and OPS while ranking second with 574 runs and 127 home runs.

The club’s 127 homers are already a franchise record. Frisco’s average of 6.2 runs per game is also the best mark in team history and ranks among the highest offensive rates in Double-A over the last two decades.

Walcott has supplied another major boost since returning from internal brace surgery on his right elbow. The Texas Rangers’ top prospect is batting .414 through his first seven games, collecting 12 hits, four doubles, one home run and five RBIs.

Walcott recorded his fifth multi-hit game Saturday, continuing an impressive return after missing the first half of the season. His speed and extra-base ability have helped add another dynamic element near the top of Frisco’s order.

Dreiling remains another key threat despite having his 12-game hitting streak snapped Saturday. Over his last 15 games, the outfielder is batting .381 with seven doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs. His .292 season average ranks fourth in the Texas League.

Max Wagner also enters the finale in the middle of a powerful stretch. Wagner has hit nine home runs over his last 23 games while producing an OPS above 1.000. He tied his career high with his 13th home run of the season earlier in the series.

Townsend will try to continue a strong week for Frisco’s pitching staff, which owns a 2.72 ERA during the series. The Riders recorded consecutive shutouts Thursday and Friday and carried a 20-inning scoreless streak into Saturday.

Frisco has also recorded 942 strikeouts this season, the second-highest total in the Texas League and one of the best marks in franchise history through 94 games.

The RoughRiders have enjoyed sustained success at Wolff Stadium, posting a 46-20 record in San Antonio since 2021. Frisco has outscored the Missions 327-185 during that span while recording 11 shutouts at the ballpark.

Already postseason-bound after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, Frisco now has an opportunity to finish the series with another road victory and carry positive momentum into its next homestand.
