STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 22, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will try to stop their longest losing streak of the season Saturday night when they host the Wichita Wind Surge in the fifth game of a six-game series at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT, with right-hander Aidan Curry (3-2, 5.08 ERA) set to start for Frisco against Wichita right-hander Chris Vallimont (2-3, 4.89).
Frisco enters the matchup at 24-24 in the second half and 63-53 overall after dropping the first four games of the series. The skid now matches the RoughRiders’ season high.
Friday’s 4-1 loss was the latest difficult result. The game remained scoreless through seven innings before Wichita broke through in the eighth with Andrew Cossetti’s grand slam. Frisco’s pitching staff allowed only four hits, but three consecutive walks before the homer proved costly.
The Frisco RoughRiders’ Fight to End the Skid
Late innings have become a defining theme in the series. Wichita has scored the go-ahead run in the eighth or ninth inning in three of the first four games, repeatedly denying Frisco a chance to finish off close contests.
The RoughRiders will look to Curry to stabilize things Saturday.
Offensively, Frisco still features one of the most productive lineups in Double-A, led by outfielder Dylan Dreiling.
Dreiling extended his season-long hitting streak to 14 games Friday and is batting .439 during that stretch with five doubles, five home runs, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Over his last 33 games, he is hitting .385 with a 1.154 OPS.
The Rangers’ No. 13 prospect ranks second in the Texas League in batting average at .310, fourth in OPS and second in hits. His 21 home runs are also the most by a RoughRiders player since Blaine Crim hit 24 in 2022.
Frisco continues to get power production from Max Wagner, who has already established a career high with 18 home runs.
Wagner has hit 14 homers over his last 41 games and remains one of the Texas League’s most dangerous late-game bats. Six of his second-half home runs have come in the eighth inning.
That late production reflects one of Frisco’s biggest strengths.
The RoughRiders lead Double-A with 249 runs scored in the seventh inning or later and have scored 99 runs in the eighth alone. Since July 1, Frisco has produced seven go-ahead or game-winning hits in the eighth inning.
The Riders are also still among the best offensive teams in the minors overall. Through 117 games, Frisco leads Double-A with 1,065 hits and a .268 team batting average. The club ranks second with 695 runs while leading the Texas League in doubles and slugging percentage.
Top Rangers prospect Sebastian Walcott remains another key piece of the lineup. Walcott has appeared in 21 games this season after returning from elbow surgery and a later stint on the injured list following a head injury.
The challenge Saturday will be turning those offensive strengths into timely production against a Wichita club that has controlled the series.
Frisco’s bullpen has also carried a heavy workload this month, throwing a Texas League-high 91.1 innings in August. Managing that workload could make Curry’s ability to provide length especially important.
Despite the current skid, the RoughRiders have already secured their postseason destination after winning the Texas League South Division first-half championship.
Now the priority is finding momentum again.
Saturday offers Frisco another opportunity to reset, support Curry with early offense and prevent Wichita from taking a fifth straight game at Riders Field.
