MiLB Recap: Corpus Christi Hooks Halt Frisco RoughRiders’ Winning Streak With 6-1 Victory

STWF Sports | CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | July 10, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders could not generate enough offense Friday night as the Corpus Christi Hooks earned a 6-1 victory at Whataburger Field, ending Frisco’s four-game winning streak.

Frisco RoughRiders’ Recent Performance Analysis

Corpus Christi improved to 8-8 in the second half and 39-46 overall, while Frisco dropped to 9-7 and 48-36. The loss was the RoughRiders’ first of the six-game series after they claimed the opening three contests behind timely late-inning production.

That late-game magic did not return Friday.

Hooks starter James Hicks controlled the matchup from the beginning, holding Frisco to one hit across five scoreless innings. The right-hander earned the victory and improved to 4-8, keeping one of the Texas League’s most productive offenses off balance throughout his appearance.

Frisco starter Ben Anderson matched Hicks early, but Corpus Christi broke through in the bottom of the third inning. The Hooks scored on an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead, forcing the RoughRiders to play from behind for the fourth consecutive game of the series.

Unlike the previous three nights, Frisco was unable to manufacture an immediate response.

Corpus Christi doubled its advantage in the fifth inning when Tyler Whitaker drove a solo home run over the fence. The blast pushed the Hooks ahead 2-0 and gave Hicks additional support as he continued to limit traffic on the bases.

The Hooks added another run in the sixth. Joseph Sullivan lifted a sacrifice fly, extending the margin to 3-0 and increasing the pressure on a Frisco offense still searching for its first run.

Anderson took the loss and fell to 0-3. Although he kept the game within reach for much of his outing, Corpus Christi consistently capitalized on its scoring opportunities while Frisco struggled to create similar chances.

The Hooks put the contest out of reach with a three-run eighth inning. The rally stretched the advantage to 6-0 and prevented the RoughRiders from producing another late comeback.

Frisco had taken the decisive lead in the eighth inning during each of the first three games of the series. Rafe Perich delivered a go-ahead home run Tuesday, the RoughRiders erupted for seven runs Wednesday and Max Wagner launched a two-run homer Thursday.

On Friday, however, the eighth inning belonged to Corpus Christi.

The RoughRiders avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth. Corey Joyce delivered an RBI single to bring home Frisco’s only run, but the Hooks closed the game without allowing the threat to grow.

Despite the defeat, the RoughRiders received clean work from the back end of their bullpen. Cole Stasio and Janser Lara each contributed a scoreless inning, preventing Corpus Christi from adding further damage during their appearances.

The pitching staff entered Friday on one of the strongest strikeout runs in Minor League Baseball. Frisco had recorded 118 strikeouts over its previous nine games, the most in the minors during that stretch.

That trend ended abruptly against the Hooks. RoughRiders pitchers finished with only one strikeout, marking just the 23rd recorded game in franchise history since 2005 in which Frisco struck out only one opposing batter.

It was the club’s first one-strikeout performance since Aug. 31, 2019, against Northwest Arkansas.

Friday’s result dropped the RoughRiders to 9-4 at Whataburger Field this season, still an impressive road record against their Texas League South rival.

Frisco will look to respond Saturday in the fifth game of the series. Left-hander Dylan MacLean is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders with a 6-1 record and a 4.50 ERA. Corpus Christi will counter with left-hander Trey Dombroski, who enters at 2-3 with a 4.33 ERA.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Whataburger Field.
