STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | July 31, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders opened Friday night with an immediate burst of offense, but the early advantage did not hold as the Corpus Christi Hooks rallied for a 3-2 victory at Riders Field.
Frisco scored twice in the first inning before Corpus Christi gradually erased the deficit and moved ahead in the sixth. The RoughRiders placed the potential tying run on base late, but the Hooks’ bullpen preserved the one-run lead and handed Frisco its second consecutive loss.
The defeat dropped the RoughRiders to 17-14 in the second half and 56-43 overall. Corpus Christi improved to 16-15 and 47-53 while evening the six-game series at two victories apiece.
Frisco quickly put pressure on Corpus Christi starter Nolan DeVos. Frainyer Chavez opened the bottom of the first with a single, giving the RoughRiders an early baserunner for one of their hottest hitters.
Dylan Dreiling followed by driving a two-run home run off DeVos, sending Frisco in front 2-0 before the Hooks recorded an out.
The home run continued an impressive power stretch for Dreiling. He has gone deep three times through the first four games of the series and finished July with six home runs. His production has remained a key component of a Frisco lineup that has established franchise records for power this season.
Corpus Christi began its comeback in the second inning against RoughRiders starter Aidan Curry. Cameron Sisneros lifted a sacrifice fly, trimming Frisco’s lead to 2-1 and preventing the Riders from creating early separation.
Curry worked through the middle innings while the RoughRiders searched for additional offense. DeVos settled in after the first-inning home run and prevented Frisco from building on its lead, keeping Corpus Christi within striking distance.
The Hooks took advantage in the sixth.
Corpus Christi collected two hits during the inning and benefited from two Frisco defensive errors. The combination allowed the Hooks to score twice and take their first lead of the game at 3-2.
The unearned opportunities proved costly in a matchup where both pitching staffs otherwise limited scoring chances. Curry took the loss and dropped to 3-2, despite keeping Frisco in position to compete throughout his outing.
DeVos improved to 3-0 after recovering from the difficult opening inning and holding the RoughRiders scoreless for the remainder of his appearance.
Frisco’s bullpen gave the offense an opportunity to respond. Bryan Magdaleno and Cole Stasio combined to strike out eight hitters in relief, preventing Corpus Christi from adding insurance runs and keeping the deficit at one.
The RoughRiders produced their best late opportunity in the eighth inning by putting the potential tying run on base. Corpus Christi reliever Alex Santos II escaped the threat, maintaining the Hooks’ narrow advantage.
Santos returned to finish the game and earned his third save of the season, completing Corpus Christi’s second straight victory after Frisco claimed the opening two games of the series.
Friday’s result represented a sharp contrast from the offensive fireworks earlier in the week. The RoughRiders scored 18 total runs over the first two games, including a 13-run performance Wednesday, but have been held to six combined runs in consecutive losses.
Frisco will look to regain its offensive rhythm and clean up its defense when the teams return to Riders Field on Saturday.
Left-hander Dalton Pence is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders. Pence enters with a 2-2 record and a 2.77 ERA and will face Corpus Christi right-hander Bryce Mayer in a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
With the series tied at two games apiece, Saturday’s matchup gives Frisco an opportunity to stop its brief skid and move back in front before Sunday’s finale.
