STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 2, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders closed their homestand on a high note Sunday night, holding off the Corpus Christi Hooks for a 4-3 victory at Riders Field to secure a split in the six-game series.
Frisco improved to 18-15 in the second half and 57-44 overall, while Corpus Christi fell to 17-16 and 48-54. After dropping three straight games entering the finale, the RoughRiders responded with timely hitting, strong starting pitching and a late defensive stand to avoid losing the series.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before Frisco broke through in the fourth.
Yeison Morrobel reached base and later came around to score when Ian Moller drove a single up the middle against Corpus Christi starter James Hicks. The RBI gave the RoughRiders a 1-0 advantage and provided all the support starter Blake Townsend would need during his outing.
Townsend delivered one of his strongest performances of the season.
The left-hander worked five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while keeping the Hooks off the scoreboard. He exited with Frisco still holding its one-run lead and ultimately earned the victory to improve to 4-5.
The outing marked Townsend’s first scoreless appearance since the middle of June and lowered his season ERA to 5.28. His ability to work efficiently through the Corpus Christi lineup helped Frisco stabilize after a difficult three-game stretch in which the Hooks had taken control of the series.
The game tightened considerably in the late innings.
Corpus Christi and Frisco exchanged three-run rallies between the seventh and eighth, turning what had been a low-scoring contest into a one-run battle heading into the ninth.
Rafe Perich delivered the biggest hit of the late stages for Frisco, coming through with a two-run single that helped the RoughRiders carry a 4-3 advantage into the final inning.
That lead was immediately tested.
Corpus Christi brought the potential tying run aboard in the ninth, forcing Frisco to execute under pressure. Jonathan Brand was called on to finish the game and responded by striking out Jason Schiavone to end the threat.
Brand’s strikeout secured his third save of the season and preserved Townsend’s victory.
Offensively, Frisco received contributions throughout the lineup, but Marcus Lee Sang was the only RoughRider to record multiple hits. His performance continued an encouraging return from the injured list, as he is now 3-for-4 since rejoining the club.
The victory was especially important after the RoughRiders had watched an early series advantage disappear. Frisco won the first two games against Corpus Christi before dropping the next three, including a 7-0 shutout Saturday.
Sunday’s response allowed the RoughRiders to leave the series with an even 3-3 record rather than carrying a four-game skid into their next road trip.
The win also added another positive chapter to a season in which Frisco has already secured a postseason berth by winning the Texas League South Division first-half title.
The RoughRiders will have Monday off before returning to action Tuesday, Aug. 4, when they begin a six-game road series against the Midland RockHounds.
After surviving a late push from Corpus Christi, Frisco heads to Midland with some momentum restored and another strong outing from its pitching staff to build upon.
