STWF Sports| FRISCO, Texas| September 4, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders struck first Friday night, but an early two-run homer from Arturo Disla proved to be their only offense in a 4-2 loss to the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Riders Field.
Frisco dropped to 30-31 in the second half and 69-60 overall, while Amarillo improved to 35-26 and 71-58.
Frisco RoughRiders Performance Overview
The RoughRiders wasted little time getting on the board.
Sebastian Walcott opened the bottom of the first inning with a walk against Amarillo starter Brian Curley. Moments later, Disla turned on a pitch and launched it over the left-field wall for a two-run home run, giving Frisco a 2-0 advantage.
The blast marked Disla’s second consecutive game with a home run and his 16th as a RoughRider.
Frisco right-hander Austin Roberts gave the Riders a strong start on the mound, holding Amarillo scoreless through the first three innings. Roberts worked a season-high three frames and threw a season-high 49 pitches, giving Frisco an opportunity to play from ahead early.
The game began to shift once Amarillo got into the Frisco bullpen.
In the fourth inning, Ben McLaughlin delivered an RBI single against Leandro Lopez to trim the RoughRiders’ lead to 2-1. The Sod Poodles continued applying pressure before finally taking control in the sixth.
McLaughlin drove in another run, and Danny Serretti added an RBI against J’Briell Easley, allowing Amarillo to move in front, 3-2. Easley was charged with the loss, falling to 0-1.
The RoughRiders had chances to answer late but were unable to capitalize.
Frisco sent runners toward home plate in both the eighth and ninth innings, but two potential runs were erased at the plate. Those missed opportunities proved costly in a game decided by a narrow margin.
Amarillo added insurance and carried a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Frisco managed to put another runner aboard, but Sawyer Hawks worked through the final threat to secure his first save for the Sod Poodles.
The loss came one night after Frisco’s offense erupted for 14 runs in a dramatic 14-12 victory, making Friday’s lack of sustained production particularly noticeable.
Disla once again supplied the biggest swing, continuing a productive stretch at the plate. His first-inning home run gave the Riders immediate momentum, but the lineup was unable to produce another run over the final eight innings.
Walcott also continued his recent surge. He extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single, maintaining the momentum he has built since returning to the lineup.
Roberts’ outing was another encouraging development. Although his night was limited to three innings, the right-hander kept Amarillo off the scoreboard and gave the Riders a clean opening trip through the order.
Ultimately, the difference came down to execution in the middle and late innings.
Amarillo steadily chipped away at the early deficit, while Frisco failed to convert its best scoring opportunities after the opening frame. The two runners thrown out at home magnified the missed chances, especially with the Riders never trailing by more than two runs.
The six-game series continues Saturday night at Riders Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Amarillo is expected to send right-hander Wellington Aracena to the mound. Aracena enters the matchup with an 0-0 record and a 7.23 ERA.
Frisco had not announced its probable starting pitcher as of Friday night.
