STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 5, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders could not carry the momentum from their series-opening offensive outburst into Wednesday night, falling 9-1 to the Midland RockHounds at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
The loss dropped Frisco to 19-16 in the second half and 58-45 overall, while Midland improved to 16-19 and 48-55. The six-game series is now tied at one game apiece.
Frisco starter D.J. McCarty ran into trouble early. Midland pushed across a run in the first inning before creating separation in the third, when Euribiel Angeles launched a three-run home run to stretch the RockHounds’ lead to 4-0.
McCarty took the loss and fell to 0-2.
The RoughRiders struggled to generate offense against Midland starter Jamie Arnold, who delivered one of his strongest outings of the season. Arnold worked 5.2 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high nine batters while keeping Frisco off the scoreboard.
That performance gave Midland time to steadily build its advantage.
The RockHounds added three more runs in the sixth inning, using two RBI singles and a run-scoring groundout to push the score to 7-0. Midland then tacked on single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to make it 9-0.
Frisco finally broke through in the eighth.
Keith Jones II delivered an RBI double to bring home the RoughRiders’ only run of the game, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
One of the few bright spots offensively came from Arturo Disla, who finished 3-for-4 with a double. His multi-hit performance accounted for a significant portion of Frisco’s production on a night when the lineup was largely held in check.
The contrast from Tuesday was dramatic.
Frisco opened the series with a 14-4 victory, piling up 12 unanswered runs after falling behind early. Every player in the lineup recorded at least one hit in that game, and six different RoughRiders finished with multiple hits.
Frisco RoughRiders: A Team to Watch in the Second Half
On Wednesday, the RockHounds reversed the script by controlling the game from the early innings and never allowing Frisco to establish sustained pressure.
The bullpen did receive a strong contribution from Cole Stasio, who threw two scoreless innings in relief. His outing helped prevent the margin from growing further late in the game.
The loss also carried significance in the Texas League South second-half standings. With Amarillo earning a victory Wednesday, Frisco fell out of first place in the division for the first time since July 18.
The RoughRiders have already secured a postseason berth after winning the South Division first-half title, but maintaining strong form remains important as the club works toward the postseason.
Frisco will have an opportunity to respond quickly Thursday night in game three of the series.
Left-hander Dylan MacLean is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders. MacLean enters with a 7-2 record and a 4.52 ERA. Midland will counter with right-hander Nathan Dettmer, who is 0-2 with an 8.68 ERA.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
After trading lopsided victories in the first two games, Thursday’s matchup gives both teams a chance to seize control of the series.
