MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Fall 9-8 to Wichita Despite Pair of Comeback Rallies

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 19, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders showed plenty of fight Wednesday night, but for the second straight game, a late Wichita response proved to be the difference.

Frisco RoughRiders Show Resilience in Close Games

Frisco erased multiple deficits and twice pulled even with the Wind Surge before ultimately falling 9-8 at Riders Field. The loss dropped the RoughRiders to 24-23 in the second half and 63-52 overall, while Wichita improved to 22-25 and 47-67.

The Wind Surge wasted little time applying pressure against Frisco starter Ben Anderson, scoring three times in the first inning and adding another run in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.

Wichita starter Riley Quick kept the RoughRiders quiet through the first two innings before Frisco finally broke through in the third. A wild pitch brought home the Riders’ first run and cut the deficit to 4-1.

Wichita restored its four-run advantage in the fifth, but the game shifted once Quick exited.

Frisco’s offense immediately went to work against the Wind Surge bullpen, scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 5-1 deficit. Yeison Morrobel delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a two-run triple, helping the RoughRiders complete their first major comeback of the night and tie the game at 5-5.

The momentum did not last long.

Wichita responded with three runs in the top of the seventh, once again putting Frisco in a difficult position at 8-5.

Still, the RoughRiders had another rally waiting.

In the bottom of the eighth, Max Wagner stepped to the plate and continued his recent power surge. Facing Mitch Mueller, Wagner launched a three-run home run to pull Frisco even at 8-8 and send another late-inning jolt through Riders Field.

The blast came on Wagner’s 25th birthday and marked his second consecutive game with a home run. It also extended his career high to 18 homers this season, continuing a breakout power campaign for the Frisco infielder.

For the second night in a row, however, Wichita had the final answer.

The Wind Surge pushed across the go-ahead run against Wilian Bormie (6-1) in the top of the ninth and then shut down Frisco in the bottom half to preserve the 9-8 victory.

The result followed Tuesday night’s dramatic 10-9 Wichita win, when the Wind Surge erased a five-run deficit with six runs in the ninth inning. Through the first two games of the series, Frisco has now lost by a combined two runs despite scoring 17 times.

One positive continued to be the production of Dylan Dreiling, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games Wednesday. The streak is the longest of Dreiling’s career and the longest by any RoughRiders player this season.

Frisco’s offense has continued to generate opportunities, particularly in the late innings, but closing out games has become the challenge through the opening two nights against Wichita.

The RoughRiders will now look for a spark Thursday.

Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter is expected to make a major league rehab start for Frisco as he works his way back from arthroscopic right ankle surgery. Leiter will be opposed by Wichita right-hander Preston Johnson (1-3, 4.11 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT at Riders Field.

Down 0-2 in the six-game series, Frisco will try to turn another close matchup into its first win of the week.
