MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Gleider Figuereo’s Grand Slam Powers Past Amarillo, 12-9

STWF Sports| FRISCO, Texas| September 2, 2026 — Gleider Figuereo wasted no time making his presence felt at the Double-A level.

Gleider Figuereo Shines in His Debut

In his first game with the Frisco RoughRiders, Figuereo delivered three hits, drew a walk and crushed a grand slam to cap an eight-run fourth inning, helping Frisco outslug the Amarillo Sod Poodles 12-9 on Wednesday night at Riders Field.

The victory evened the six-game series at one game apiece and improved the RoughRiders to 29-30 in the second half and 68-59 overall. Amarillo fell to 34-25 and 70-57.

Frisco jumped ahead immediately.

After starter Ben Anderson worked a scoreless top of the first, Sebastian Walcott continued his scorching stretch by launching a solo home run in the bottom half against Amarillo starter Mason Marriott. The blast gave Frisco a 1-0 lead and marked Walcott’s fourth consecutive game with a home run, the longest such streak of his Minor League career.

Amarillo answered to tie the game, but Max Wagner quickly restored the RoughRiders’ advantage in the second inning.

Wagner turned on a pitch and sent it 445 feet down the left-field line for his 21st home run of the season, giving Frisco a 2-1 edge. The homer added to a career-best power season for Wagner, who has emerged as one of the most dangerous hitters in the bottom half of the RoughRiders’ lineup.

The game changed dramatically in the fourth.

Frisco entered the inning leading 3-2 before sending batter after batter to the plate during its biggest offensive outburst of the night.

Figuereo opened the frame with the first hit of his Double-A career, reaching on a single before eventually scoring when Dylan Dreiling delivered a two-run hit.

The lineup then turned over, bringing Figuereo back to the plate with the bases loaded.

The 22-year-old made the second opportunity count in emphatic fashion, driving a grand slam into the Lazy River beyond the outfield wall. The blast pushed Frisco’s advantage to 11-2 and immediately gave Figuereo one of the most memorable Double-A debuts in recent franchise history.

He finished the night with three hits and a walk, while the grand slam gave him 20 home runs across all levels this season, matching his career high.

While Frisco’s offense provided the fireworks, Anderson gave the RoughRiders a steady performance on the mound.

The right-hander worked 5.1 innings and allowed only two runs on two hits, earning the victory and improving to 3-6. His ability to limit damage gave Frisco enough breathing room to build its sizeable advantage.

Amarillo refused to disappear.

The Sod Poodles scored seven runs over the later innings, with Angel Ortiz and Druw Jones each homering as the visitors attempted to erase the nine-run deficit.

Frisco’s bullpen bent but ultimately held, preserving the three-run victory.

The night also extended the remarkable run of Walcott, who continues to look increasingly comfortable since returning to the lineup earlier this season.

For Figuereo, however, Wednesday belonged to him.

A three-hit performance would have been impressive enough in a Double-A debut. Adding a grand slam made it unforgettable.

The series continues Thursday at Riders Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Amarillo is expected to start right-hander Junior Sanchez, who enters at 5-3 with a 4.98 ERA, while Frisco had not yet announced its probable starter.
